So that's how that works.

True, but it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the PLA's top of the line equipment to have them using a 2nd line AA gun.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

any chance we can keep this thread somewhat on track?

Tracers on white skies can't be seen.

Threads on track?

On a forum I moderate?

No! I wont allow it!

Anyway, it is on track, we're discussing the replacement of the current AAA with a new, more realistic version (presumeubly with some sights, too)

What's the other A stand for in AAA anyway Bob? (I'm allowed to ask stupid questions cos I'M in his squad :p )

To keep the thread firmly on the tracks; I concur with what Bob said.

By the way, any Dev or any other such enlightened people know if that 1 time deployable AA idea might work?

Expendable Grunt wrote:PRC, does that Chinese Militia group make use of the ZPU-4? The one I had no idea existed until I tried to "invent" one.

Also, what is meant by "produced as a Type 56"? Since I know the Type 56 is an assault rifle based off the AK, and the Type 56 Carbine is based off the SKS, I'm assuming the Type 56 designation are for foreign designed, locally produced weapons?
I'm no expert on the Militia, and I can't really tell you where to find dependable information on them but its probable that they use whatever surplus, used resources they could get so, they could use the type 56.

The "TYPE _ XX" nomenclature is actually mostly for export and foreign... nomenclature. In China we call the Type 56 AA as simply "56 Anti-Air" and the type-56 AK as "56 rifle"... The QBZ, QBU, QJY and newer weapon nomeclature is also mostly for foreign purposes. In China most people call the QBZ95 "95 rifle" or "95 class rifle" or if people really want to be technical they call it "95 light assault rifle"

Anyways back "on topic" Could we add something like this to the ZPU-4/56 AA ? (if 56 AA is going to remain the generic AA weapon)

Yes I know, it's mspaint :) but you get the picture... Not sure if that's what it actually looks like, but I've seen something similar like that in a war museum.

lol Bob if you think this tread is on track.. you need to re-sit your Mod exam.

Almost every thread turns into an unreasonable modelling & animation of new toys or an argument about what country uses what equipment.

I just want to be able to see the tracers or get some cross-hairs.. i didn't suggest a new AAA gun..

If you think the easiest way to resolve this is to model a new AAA gun go for it. But something that might actually be achievable and resolve the problem this side of Christmas would be the angle i'd go for. Stronger colour on the tracers might be a route.

Now you can go back to discussing whether the PLA use a 56 or a QBZ or a QBU or a QJY or a QBZ95 or a ZPU-4/56 or a twin 35mm AA Cannon.

I think it'd just be simpler if BOTH AA guns were the same. I mean. all teams share the same models for bunkers, firebases, command posts, etc, right? :P But that's just me.

Well, then you step into the bounds of unrealistic armaments for the armies... It wouldn't make sense for the Westerners to use a ZPU-4 or vis-versa

AA: Anti-Air (AAA or SAM)
AAA: Anti-Aircraft Artillery
SAM: Surface-to-Air Missile
