I know about the YPR, allthough we are currently using that in afghanistan, i'll consider the CV90 though.

I think I still have a build somewhere you can use to start from.

The new faction is called "DAF", Dutch Armed Forces. It works in-game. There are no maps yet, however, I think I still have a modified "Karkand" map somewhere. It has a "minefield" in it as well :) . You are correct, mines placed by the mapper.

I'll search for the build tonight and upload it to somewhere if I can find it. Not sure if it works with 0.7 really. I tested it on 0.6, which worked fine.
If I remember correctly, the install was easy. Just make a copy of your PR folder, then place the contents of the build-rar inside it, should work just fine. I'll test that as well, see if it still works, hehe.

Here are some screenshots as well, for you to enjoy :) . Please note some screenshots are pretty old and some things look better now.
There are only desert skins available at the moment. I'm not sure if the skins are entirely correct, but I think they can be used as placeholders just for now. No, they are not the 'nilla BF2 skins.

The build also contains (if I haven't forgotten to put it in back then, lol) a Dutch Leopard II. Well, it's the Canadian one, but has a re-skin. It now has the Dutch flag on it and a Dutch license plate. Please note the version that was put in is an early WIP version of the Canadian Leopard II, so might contain bugs and everything. Also I think you don't need to focus on using this in your first maps.

There once was a guy who was making the Fennek, but he dissappeared from face of the earth. Last thing he sent me were some screenshots. They were hot! But then he dissappeared..

And some mapping ideas:

09:11 Zulu
Map idea after the true story of Viktor Franke

At 09:11 Zulu time a Dutch Commando convoi gets ambused after a IED blows up a bridge when they were on their way back from raiding a suspected IED factory.

Battle of Chora (counter-attack?)
The Battle of Chora took place in and around the town of Chora (3,000 inhabitants), in Oruzgan Province, between June 15 and June 19, 2007. It was a battle between ISAF and Afghan forces on one side and Taliban forces on the other for the control of the Chora District which is regarded by the Taliban as a highly strategic area. This battle has proved to be the biggest Taliban offensive of the year in Afghanistan, and resulted in the death of more than 100 people in just three days.

Prelude
The Oruzgan province, a Taliban stronghold, was secured by 1,400 Dutch soldiers, 100 Australian soldiers and Afghan forces. Because the area is far too large to control for only 1,500 soldiers, the Dutch had set up checkpoints, which were manned by local Afghan forces, around villages in the area.

Some of these checkpoints were near the strategic town of Chora. There were 100 Afghan police in Chora.

As part of winning the-hearts-and-minds the Dutch troops were working in Chora on projects such as a school, a mosque and a bridge. 60 Dutch troops were deployed in Chora.

A few days before the attack, many Taliban fighters gathered in the mountains around Chora, unnoticed by Coalition and Afghan troops.

The battle
On Friday evening June 15 some shooting took place near Chora. In the morning of that day a Dutch convoy in Tarin Kowt, ten miles from Kamp Holland, was attacked by a suicide bomber, killing Dutch soldier Timo Smeehuijzen and several Afghan civilians.

On Saturday morning June 16 three Afghan police posts (Kala Kala, Nyazi and Sarab) on the edge of Chora were attacked simultaneously [1] by 500 Taliban fighters, some sources say even 1,500. Dutch troops deployed in Chora and locals came to the aid of the Afghan police posts. Apparently to decrease morale, the Taliban executed the two brothers of the commander of the Sarab police post. The same day the Dutch and Afghan forces were pushed out of the checkpoints and were forced into the center of the town.

The Dutch troops assembled near the white district building and at 19:25 contacted Colonel Hans van Griensven in Tarin Kowt for a decision whether to retreat to Kamp Holland. Without consulting ISAF or The Hague Griensven decided the troops would stay. In the evening some Dutch reinforcements led by Lieutenant-Colonel Rob Querido arrived at Chora. Meanwhile Australian Special Forces were deployed as a shield between Baluchi Valley and Mirabad.

Also on Saturday June 16 US Staff Sergeant Roy P. Lewsader was killed when his vehicle was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade in Tarin Kowt.

On Sunday June 17 and Monday June 18 more Dutch reinforcements arrived from Kamp Holland and Deh Rahwod thus increasing the number of Dutch troops at Chora to 500.

As the balance of the battle changed, Taliban militants, who had gained control of most of the residential areas forced civilians to fight with them or face execution. Taliban militants also used civilian homes as shelter, but were still bombed by NATO aircraft, causing many civilian casualties. As the battle continued, Taliban forces sustained heavy casualties by airstrikes and in gunfights.

At one time all six Dutch F16's were in the air attacking ground targets assigned by the infantry.

In the night of Sunday June 17 to Monday June 18 during the loading of an 81-mm mortar, which was deployed in the courtyard of the district building, the shell exploded inside the launch tube, killing the Dutch Sergeant-Major Jos Leunissen and wounding three other soldiers.

On June 18, the Taliban forces retreated and fled in the mountains, leaving the city heavily damaged but in the hands of ISAF.

On Tuesday morning June 19 the Dutch and Afghan troops made a big push. The checkpoints were recaptured and back in Afghan control.

Spin Gahr (insurgency)
Ongoing mission to rid the beluchi valley of Taliban by Dutch and other ISAF forces.

Dutch Colonel Nico Geerts Monday said the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was preparing 'a special operation' in the Baluchi valley in the Afghan province of Oruzghan.

In an interview with Dutch radio station BNR, which had been screened by defence ministry here, the commander said 'a special anti-Taliban operation' was in the making.

Geerts added the planned operation would be part of a larger operation in Oruzghan province.

In June, Dutch and Afghan military fought a heavy battle against hundreds of Taliban fighters in the valley.

Geerts denied reports that thousands of Taliban had taken over the Deh Rawod region. The Dutch colonel said merely 'several tens of Taliban fighters' were active in the area.

And another post, because many people just 'skim' posts with a lot of text and I think this one is important;

There are already a whole bunch of other community factions out there. And every faction adds a shitload of megabytes to PR.
So what I suggest is to keep this a small faction at first. In megabytes as well as vehicles and everything. Focus on infantry gameplay mostly. I think this adds to PR. Seeing many maps are huge these days, make some smaller ones, with just transport vehicles and such. Pretty much like "Helmand", but bigger and better of course, hehe. Then see if the Dutch Forces are a success. And if they are, extend them.

To sum things up (and add some more):
- Focus on infantry gameplay (only transport vehicles, no armor yet). You can start working on new models and such, but those are not the priority in the early stages
- Keep it simple (don't add a new gamemode, insurgency and counterattack are fine for the maps/stories I posted above)
- Keep it small, in megabytes
- Focus on Afghanistan (realistic, many ideas for maps/missions, active)

I've changed my original Dutch Forces Design Plan a tiny bit, I think it's pretty much like the plan the topicstarter posted, but with more colors and detail.
Here it is: Google Docs - Design Plan Dutch Armed Forces

Note: If you agree with what I state above (open for discussion of course), I can try and be your R-CON Community Faction Lead. That is, if you want that.
If you do, I suggest we get organized a bit more and define our goals for the first "release" (and the design plan needs to be changed to meet those goals). But we'll get to that later, let's first see how you respond to this.

There are also some models around. Some are finished, some aren't. Depending on what else people reply to the above posts, I'll find out what models are available.

Infantry battles with Mercedes! :D

An insurgency map without armour and anti-tank weapons would be awesome!

That LCU is cool..

Don't you have a model of the Hms. Rotterdam / Johan de Witt ?

(The submergable ship who carries the LCU's)

(Ik dacht dat jullie die hadden op een site ergens?)

Cause if so, I really want to make a map with lots of water for marines who play somewhere against militia's

We'll find a story where it can fit in.

Than we have a large scale landing operation.. new for PR ?

Yes, there are models around for such ships, Jan. There's the "Zeven Provincien" and the "Johan de Witt", but I can't think of something to put those in.
Anyway, the "Johan de Witt" is huge and very nice, though I suggest to leave that one be for now. Think small :) .

Can't the Johan de witt be a static > spawn place where the LCU's and soldiers spawn?

Just like a US carrier..

To add a LCF class ship like the "Zeven provinciën" would be cool, but I don't know.. you guys planned to make that ship as a vehicle in the early beginnings? or just as a static?

If it'll ever be in-game it will be a static, as it's far too big to use it as a vehicle. Lol, the maps aren't even big enough to use it as a vehicle, would be really awkward (and my, the lag it brings along!).

No focussing on ships, at all, at this point. Not many vehicles either, only for transports and support, no armor (maybe later, just not in the early stages).
In my opinion, the focus needs to be on infantry combat. Vehicles are there to transport troops, help them, but that's basically it. Not saying it will never happen, just not now.

Infantry sounds great and it would be awesome to see a Helmand-style map again be it a little bigger.
If you can read this the ***** fell off.

Good.

Let's have a talk on xfire then. Tonight suits me just fine. How 'bout you? And if he can make it, let Daniel be there as well. We'll talk about what the "old" Dutch Armed Forces group had (the builds and the screenshots), what you have, the new goals and how to combine these to what we're both thinking of.
