TC Override
Since the current driver of MBTs is also simulated as the Tank Commander, would it be possible to implement a tank commander override, which, by pressing a button (Z?) spins the turret to whatever the Driver/TC is looking at?

Viper, this idea seems fairly bad for teamwork, i also prefer it that the driver/gunner have to talk as it brings more realism to the battle anyway, only people who deserve to go "BOOM" cant communicate well enough to find and shoot the tank at least.(it will teach you to be quicker and more to the point)
Team play in the tanks like how it is now is the fun thing, doing an auto over-ride isn't really going to help anyone but those who cant communicate and shouldn't really be using the tank.

actually.
they do. abrams and most tanks now, have the ability to have 2+ enemy vehicles targeted at the same time. the gunner would start shooting at one, and while he's firing, the TC would be painting another target, and the turret will then move to the next target.
but, in pr, i think it's either hardcoded, or it would take away from the teamwork aspect of it, much less i would hate being a gunner...so for now.. probably not.

The whole point of the override is that the TC takes control of the turret and spins it to whatever he's looking at.LtSoucy wrote:Ya but gunner still must move the gun. ya a computer does some of it but the gun is must be moved just like every other time.
Instance:
Driver is watching the rear. He sees a jihad car coming. Hits the override. Now gunner is on target.
Another possibility would to bring in the 3 man tank, where the TC controls the .50 and has the current vision blocks (360 w/ zoom) and the override, the Driver drives with a frontal view, and the gunner, well, guns.

But it will be abused a lot by the driver, it removes a lot of the teamwork for me and would make using the armour a lot worse in my opinion as it reduces teamwork which is a good thing to use with mates(instead of constant laughing and joking about calling targets and shooting, its constant "oi stop sending my turret that way i was shooting at something etc".
Its a good concept but not able to use it in the bf2 engine i don't think without removing the good bits of tanking.

Unless you could have the gunner somehow accept the input - then it would be fine. But 1) it doesn't sound like it's possible without FUBARing something and 2) a better option would be the ability of the TC to paint a target for the gunner with a lockon symbol or similar.Jonny wrote:you line up a shot on the truck coming towards you on AlB, see the perfect moment, fire. Turret spins round to a small car approaching you from way further away. You see a friendly scimitar killed by the round that *was* meant for the truck as the turret was spinning. You see the burning wreckage of your tank in the centre of your screen.

Exactly.
Sure it could be "realistic" in some sense, but lets keep in mind that for a large amount of the time playing PR, you're with people you don't know. Also, this is just a game. There are limits to what can be done.
This wouldn't add anything useful aside from something annoying players could do to piss people off.

Its not hard. Players that come strait from vBF2 all think. "Look at that guy running around in field 200 meters away. Ill kill him." Is it that hard to hold fire for 2 minutes. And with the new scopes you can see if he is carrying a gun or not. people really need to just read the guide.

just give the driver the ability to laser mark targets, that would be more realistic, in real life tank comm cant make the turret spin, they just mark them out and the gunner moves over once he takes out the first targetViper5 wrote:Since the current driver of MBTs is also simulated as the Tank Commander, would it be possible to implement a tank commander override, which, by pressing a button (Z?) spins the turret to whatever the Driver/TC is looking at?

With this suggestion, you'd better hope your Tank Commander is smart as hell. I know some *people* who would rather take out infantry when an enemy tank is staring directly at them.

If you really feel compelled, all you need to do is turn the tank so the barrel faces what you want it to. I've been guilty of this on a couple of occasions such as "Contact, T90, 195!" "Where?" "195! TURN!" "I don't see it" *turns tank* "ooooh, there it is", at which point I usually pull off into a secluded area and explain the compass system to my gunner.
IMO TC override isn't needed in PR as it takes a large chunk of teamwork out of the equation. We're supposed to be communicating with each other and maintaining situational awareness between the driver/gunner and possibly mounted MG gunner, not driving ala vBF2 and having someone else pull the trigger for you.

This brings a whole new headache to pub gaming.ReaperMAC wrote:With this suggestion, you'd better hope your Tank Commander is smart as hell. I know some *people* who would rather take out infantry when an enemy tank is staring directly at them.

Thats when they die. And a good tank crew can get a record of over 50 kills with no deaths on a make like Kashan. You dont need to change anything to the tanks there fine besides firing on the move.ReaperMAC wrote:With this suggestion, you'd better hope your Tank Commander is smart as hell.
