Al Basrah - Brit objective markers

Post by BloodBane611 »

The blue cache markers are from the ingame map, red markers are what the brits were seeing. How the **** is that southern one in any way accurate? I mean, I know now, but in all seriousness, how is that supposed to help you find the cache?

I realize that the objective markers are approximate (as they should be), but that one (and it seems likely there are others) is totally misleading.

Also, what happened to the idea of "false" caches?

Random distance is not calculated as a circle, but as a square, ie:

So it can be far away indeed.

We went from circles to invisible squares? I don't know how I missed that. Thanks for the info.

Moral of the story:

-Set a marker on the map marker.
-All run out to 70m in different directions
-That's your maximum theoretical radius.
-Spiral in to the centre point, keeping scattered around that you cover each other's missed bits.

From what I understand, there is no method available in BF2's Python to get the direct distance between two objects. So it is calculated as the cache's position (which is x and y coordinate) plus and minus 50 of both the x and y values and those are the bounds for two random numbers, which are the position of the icon for the British.

That's a weird mistake I made in the North West corner of the Mosque.

It's on the original too, strange I never noticed before.

Ahh clypp I didn't even notice. But that is weird, seems like someone missed something when making their minimap.

Jonny, I read your posts, and while I vaguely understand what you're saying, in all honesty it didn't come together for me.

The C/C++ code is for placing the marker within a circle surrounding the cache, correct?

Either way, I honestly don't think it's a big problem. Pain in the butt, but that's what playing the British on Al Basrah is for in the first place.

Does the BF2 Python even have a math library needed to do the trig calculations? I'm guessing not.
