Doing a quick search for "Selectable Lightweight Attack Munition", I discovered that in RL, the SLAM can be remote, timer and proximity detonated. In PR, however, it is only timer detonated. I predict that the PR SLAMs usefulness/effectiveness would considerably increase if proximity detonation were added to it. Spec Ops kits would then be able to better utilize the SLAM by placing it on roads, walls, buildings, entrances, etc. whereby its detonation is only triggered by bodies/ vehicles crossing it. If the SLAM were to retain its timer detonation ability and also incorporate the proximity detonation ability, then it would better reflect its real-life counterparts versatility.

In the case that proximity detonation is added to the SLAM, then all methods of detonation, i.e. remote (C4), timer, proximity, will be represented in-game, thereby somewhat completing the spectrum of employment possibilities of infantry-based explosives.

Additionally, since the SLAM is only available to the Spec Ops kit, such upgrade to the SLAM would somewhat increase the kits value as an asset.

In the next release its getting a C4 charge also. And as a specops you should be going behind there lines killing CO assets.
The SLAM will have four possible methods of detonation: detonating with a mine function, trip-wire, command detonation function, and a time-delay function (integral timer).
Yes, it has four possible methods of detonation, but implementing them all would be rather pointless. The specops is getting C4 (command detonation), and we don't need specops as another mine spamming engineer.

So, how about using proximity detonation SLAM as an anti-infantry mine? I'm sure it would come in handy for escape/evasion as well as distraction in Infiltration based missions.

I'm against it. No anti person mines, please.

Well... I think that putting in multiple fire modes would be nice... maybe set the timer that way?

And heat signature would be nice (Place a SLAM or 2 on a plane, and it'll explode when the engines fire up... hehehe)

And I wonder if that's realistic...

The SLAM can be used as 3 different kind of mines: A magnetically triggered mine, where the mine is triggered by a large magnetic object passing nearby, a thermally triggered mine, where the mine senses the thermal signature of a vehicle and detonates, and finally as a trip mine, where something must physically trip the wire. The first two would just be like giving 4 ultra-effective mines to the specops, while the last would rarely be used, since it violates the rules of war, which most US ROEs are based around.

Also, the fact that the specops is getting C4 more than makes up for the lack of command detonation on the SLAMs.
