Remote Detonated Claymores

Post by Tacticsniper815 »

Hey in real life claymores are remote detonated i was thinking maybe you could make it where a claymore mine is detonated by a remote like the C4 does

That would make the 2 weapons operate way too close to the same.

claymores can be proximaty, trip wire or remote detonated.

trip wire is more common, but remote does exist.

I would prefer they stay trip wire since C4 is use for laying a trap where you wanna wait and blow em up then jump out and shoot em - where as claymores I use to drop and forget or cover an alley way a few blocks down

trip wired or not, i do hope PRMM addresses the problem with claymore spamming introduced by the patch 1.2 of BF2.

it's become so rampant in vBF2 that close combat in urban area is suicidal at best, and ridiculous ( i saw 12 snipers in a 32 player team all running around the strike of karkand map dropping claymore left and right, trust me... it wasn't fun ).

i have an idea.... what if we introduce setup time for claymore?? the person would need to kneel and set the claymore up which take a few seconds perhaps (balance it to whatever is necessary).

that way we won't have this ridiculous snipers running around and hell they even ran straight to a team and dropped claymore straight in the pack of the team, and when the team realized his presence he blew half of them off.

yes, a set-up time would be kinda nice

now that I think more about it, if it would be possible to make claymores remote, but not detonate, just arm em. set the claymore(s) and use the remote to activate em after you've gotten out of the area or maybe just a delayed time arming. I'm really sick of setting a claymore behind a box or whatever, then when I get up 5 seconds later to go snipe a block away, the claymore blows my legs off...

I wish PRMM would take the claymores away from snipers, period. Snipers are already the camping class and to give them an auto defense system to protect them, when they are stupid enough to be found, is rediculous. If I get picked off by a sniper time after time, and I finally find him, I don't want some stupid automated mine to blow me up.(and the dork gets points for it too) They need a penalty for staying in one spot for too long.(the penalty being, that if I find them, I kill them) It's not balanced. Snipers need a weekness. I can't wait for .25 and .3.

ya, but how many snipers have I personally seen not use the claymores

last time was on Warlord on the TV station tower, the tower flag was being taken, I try to get a couple pistol shots off to warn the 2 snipers up there (I had a DAO AT kit), but no, they keep sniping, not even any claymores set to cover themselves - heck if I had just waited to ambush the 2 americans coming up, I probly coulda took em both out easy, instead only got 1...

my 2 points are

1) lots of people are too stupid to remember they even have claymores, dont punish the smart ones just because they are smart... and

2) how the heck am I supposed to have *any* chance of fending off even one or especially 2 guys coming up to kill me - try to shoot em point blank with my rifle? use the crappy pistol and take em both out (might be able to get one, but even that can be questionalbe depending on if the turd drops and gets insta-accuracy)?

Taking away claymores takes away damn near any ability to fight back up close as a sniper. In real life the sniper would be working in a 2 man squad of him and his spotter, who would have something like an M4 (whatever assault rifle you prefer in game) - but the trouble is, its a game, and a *lot* of the people playing dont give a damn about you, so fat chance of finding somebody to come with you - even if they are in your clan they may well wanna just go off on their own...

i think the claymores are fine the way they are, its just you guys are talking about pubby servers, i really doubt youd see most of these things happening in PRMM.

as far as sniper/spotter...

my friend and i on wake island often form a sniper/spotter squad, and lock it, i go sniper he goes medic. needless to say infantry absolutly hate us. you can really exploit the game to the max by doing this, but hey, fight fire with fire on pubby servers eh? he drops 2 medkits we sit there and pick off guys, he uses his unlocked G36 which is quite accurate, and he checks behind of us every once and awhile. we soften up targets for eachother and get tons of kills back to back. if i get killed, he revives me, if he gets killed i pick up his kit and revive him and we switch roles. soooo much fun, and sometimes if we are able to get a support buddy with us, infantry stand no chance against us.

yes, if you have a buddy to act as the spotter/guard/medic role, it would be helluva fun, but one of my points was how often are you gonna have a buddy to help you, you'd have to know about 10 different people that collectively are always playing in order to have one of em support you whenever you wanna do this. A good lot of people either arent even in a clan, or they are usually just browsing public servers - do you really wanna try going on a pub server and tell some guy "OK you're coming with me whether you like it or not and you'd better have this kit unlocked" he'd tell you to play with yourself, leaving you telling the same thing to somebody else - eventually you'd get kicked or banned from every server that ever ran BF2...

I really don't think so, unless they wanted to bring a couple. But I would assume that if you were a sniper you would'nt want to sneak around with 2, 3.5 pound mines that are 8.5 inches long. And in reality, snipers never get close enough to targets to have a claymore be effective. If you keep the sniper class to be able to carry claymores I would love it if they could be destroyed by grenades again, I would think that a grenade going off next to a claymore would either set of the claymore or dissable it.

no, they probly dont carry claymores in real life - but it kinda helps make the sniper kit not so useless when running through an urban area where he cant take time for his shots as much...

on another note: I think I remember watching something bout booby traps and mines and whatnot (the military/terrorist kind) - and I believe it said most of the time, if any US soldier, be it a private or as high as you go and still stay in the field, had to get permission from as high up as like a general or something to even setup and arm booby traps (claymores, ect) - imagine setting wanting to set a claymore in BF2 to catch the guys coming 3 blocks down, but to have to radio through 4 or 5 officers just to get the go ahead... I would think somebody's gonna be full of holes *real* quick...

Do you prefere a sniper with a claymore or a sniper with a more precise weapon ?

Claymore should be destructible with grenades or bullets

Its an interesting point.

I play sniper (in Vanilla), and I play properly - recon the area, spotting targets and what not.

I rarely place claymores, but I can see their usefulness.

You sneak up on a sniper, boom. Claymore. Respawn, he's got a second one. boom. Not good.

It'd be a lot better if they were remote detonated. Although Claymores in real life can be visual or clicker, in game it'd be better. Right click and you pull out your clicker. Means that any sniper engrossed in sniping can still be sneaked up on (remove the claymore without him noticing or just knife him straight up) but still offers a defence.

#1. Noone is being punished for using claymores. The implimentation in BF2 is not very realistic. I've never known a sniper to carry proximity claymores. Hell, I've never even heard of them being used by the USMC. I can't even find anything on a search, when I looked. I'm not saying that they don't exist, they're just not too common at all.(unlike in BF2) There is too much of a chance of friendly fire IRL.(just like BF2)

#2. Snipers aren't supposed to have much ability to defend close up. They are supposed to be unseen. If they do feel that their pos has been compromised, they should move to a different area or one. If they've been dispatching targets, they move every once in a while, even if they think they are safe. The spotter should be utilized more for defense, I believe.

Maybe the remote detonate would be alright, but the auto defense claymore is a bit much.

Suggestion: Have a "Spotter's Guide" in the read me of PRMM. Someone with experience could do a write-up on what a good spotter is supposed to do and the benifits to the team and to the spotter. It will show what a good sniper/spotter team can do. This will encourage people to join a sniper team to aid in defense and aquiring targets.

Show me the map & weapon that is capable of shooting someone from 1000m and kill him with one shot. Map are too small, visible area too so sniper need CQ weapon. And IRL he would have spotter/guard... here in PRMM? it would be wasteing one team mate... spotter would wait whole map to defend sniper and kill no1...

I can tell you from my experiance a spotter is not useless, as long as they are a medic it works really well together.

also, my best friend plays BF2 we play all the time together (i usually bring my computer over ot his house and we play) so yeah, i have someone thats willing to be a dedicated spotter. Dont any of you have a good friend that plays BF2?

and i have seen snipers use claymores. on this show shootout (a VERY good episode) this sniper and his spotter were setting up a position on this hill, and they were placing some claymore a few meters away from their position, they then noticed a group of about 4 uhm... i forget what they are called, but bad guys haha, and well actually, id just be rambling if i finished the story, point is they were using claymores! and im pretty sure they were marines.

if you want to make snipers useful AND you want to take away their claymores, give them binocs and give them compedent players in mobile artillery and let them spot targets like in POE! this makes the sniper on top of a roof a bit more useful then normal =)

I say that a true sniper never even gives up his position. Most of the time the claymore does more damage to your own team then the enemy. I think the claymore should be reworked. Its use is just to far from what it is in RL.
