Why the hell are the dates in American format, have you no pride in your country?! Murmph! Humprh! *additional Wiston Churchill like noises*

P.S. I do realise it has taken me a full year to notice this...

'62? I knew it was pretty recent but bloody hell, decolonisation was kinda slow and only really started with India in 1947 so it's not that surprising really I guess.

Its logical to me that first is the smallest then the middle and the largest. day ---> month ---> year.
I dont understand what kind of thinking is behind other kind of writing down dates month/day/year... if anyone can explain it to me I would be... wiser :)

EDIT: its like "Q: whats today? A: 2008 or A: March"

I thought that was able to be changed in your settings, but I can't find it. Maybe with the new forum this went away.

My theory for the development of the American date system is how we say/write it. When we write somthing we write April 1st, 2008. So 4/1/08 fits naturaly to us.

In Japan it goes Year, Month, Day, [Day of the Week]. Biggest to smallest. Least specific to most specific...

Look i know you dont want to hear this guys but the reason we use American format is because America is the best country in the world. And being as that may we must all meet her needs. :) Sorry but its true. ;)

Canada only gained complete 100% independence in 1982

Smallest to Largest is much more intuitive to me. When writing it I recall fist what the day is, then so on. Simply read it: the Fifth of March 1974.

That "of" is so intrusive. It's better to switch the order and say March 5th 2008.
