Zatar Wetlands - LZ1 & LZ2 as Uncappable CP's

Post by IraVedic0 »

I play PR.07b on Texas Teamplayers. We have identified a potential issue with the Zatar Wetlands Map. We are trying to determine if it is a map glitch or a designed feature. Here goes:

Playing as MEC Landing Zone 1 and Landing Zone 2 are "out of bounds" (meaning you will register as out of bounds and begin taking damage) for the entire round.

My understanding of the Counter Attack Mode was that once reinforcements were brought in all CP's were cappable. At the begining of the round, before the counter-attack begins, I can understand why LZ1 and LZ2 are "out of bounds", it allows the USMC to get a foot hold and begin ground operations. However, when the MEC team has fought back, after counter-attack is triggered, and captured all other control points why would LZ1 and LZ2 remain "out of bounds"?
In this, the second completely original PR game mode, a defending force is pinned back by the opposing side. Much as AASv2, a series of Control Points can be taken by the assaulting team, but the defenders are unable to retake any lost ground until they receive reinforcements. At this point, they will receive additional tickets and/or vehicles, and may launch their counter-offensive. Both sides may win by either reducing the enemy tickets to zero or by controlling every Control Point on the map.
This description of the Counter Attack mode, from the PR wiki, implies that once reinforcements arrive it essentially turns into an AAS map. In our experience both LZ1 and LZ2 have attack markers for the MEC, but the MEC is unable to enter the flag zone because it remains "out of bounds".

Any help you can provide in this matter is appreciated.

Ira

p.s. I did try to search the forums for a discussion of this issue to no avail. If I missed it, and the issue has been addressed elsewhere, my apologies.

Played this map yesterday and the day before...Yesterday on MEC side, and yes the LSites are out of bounds.

But when i played on USMC side i witnessed the MEC side take the two Landing sites. and i dont think they did it by flooding down like lemmings sacrificing their lives for a flag.

I think the flags are fully cappable, and your server may have had a bug.

Yea unforunately we have yet to figure out a way to make the out of bounds move based on flags.

The main reason for out of bounds area around the landing zones is obvious: in their infinite widom, DICE decided to put the carrier 100 meters off the shore. Obviously the map would quickly devolve into carrier rape sessions over and over again if MEC were permitted to go anywhere near the beaches.

So that is the dilemma of vanilla BF2 maps: youve got some good terrain design mixed with incredibly stupid static placement. Unfortunately, not much to change this, I doubt vanilla BF2 maps will be featured in PR in the long run...

So enjoy the map for what it is, but realize there are some flaws in it that are not possible to fix...

As for the beaches possible to capture, I THINK you can linger on the very edge of the boundary and be inside the capture radius...

We did not spend a ton of time working on zatar wetlands or gulf of oman, as the maps are fundamentally flawed and not really designed for Project Reality gameplay.

The maps planned for the next version of PR are by far superior to any maps currently in PR or vanilla BF2 so fiddling with the vbf2 maps at this point is just not worth the effort

The flags are definitely cappable. You just have to get to that point where you are not yet out of bounds but close enought to capp the flag.

Still slightly annoying I agree.
