Question: New Engineer kit, why is the shotgun not got buckshot?

Post by MadTommy »

The new engineer kit now has a shotgun, (well the USMC on Jabal do)

But it's not got buckshot or iron sights, (or cross hair). I cant see how this will be useful for close quarters, or door breaching or anything else.

Am i missing something?

Not really meant for combat (though I bagged 2 on Jabal with it!). It's a fluff piece of equipment (note the ammo load), like signal smoke.

Its a good change. The shotgun is a door breaching tool now, and thats all fine. Just have to see if it works *runs to the download section*

I used it on the destructible fence sections (the plywood things) and it takes two shots to break one. It's quite fluff, but I like it.

Yeah, a lot of buildings now have the makeshift plywood thingys nailed over the doorway. The shotty is about the only thing that will clear the way.

You can use the slug to hit somebody in CQB, but I wouldn't wanna be relying on it.

I was under the impression the material for them was being changed so grenades would affect it as well, but haven't tested it.

Anyhow, as far as buckshot goes (I realized I forgot to address this above), it would require another weapons slot, and slugs fit much more into the breaching role.

Ok so its for breaking down barriers across gaps in fences.

Odd choice of kit for this role. Why not give them SLAMs?

Quieter, quicker, more commonly used... and we're due some more maps with larger urban areas, so door breaching will become a little more commonplace I suspect.

Also, certainly in one map that I can think of, those wooden slats are being placed across doorways, effectively forcing people to use a shottie to open the door before they can hide inside.

WTF? Engineer has a shotgun again? Great, now no one will want to play as engy on huge maps, it was already bad enough that every time you needed repairs or needed something blown up, everyone was always optic rifleman

Shotgun is a secondary weapon; they keep the L85/G3/QBZ-95/M-16 primary.

This.

However, I'll have LAT and ammo in my squad WAY more often than an engie I'm sure, so...wood slats are not an issue.

All answered except one thing...

Wheres the engi's mines??? When selecting a kit from the screen it shows a picture of the mine in the engineers kit however when i select the kit and im cycling through the stuff....theres C4, wrench etc ... but no mine.

Or am i being stupid?

Which is quite likely....

Haha thanks...

Ya see...it was me being stupid all along!! Im just used to using the mousewheel to flick through the weapons and it doesnt show up there...

Thanks for the tip...

PS Touche in reference to the RTFM bit. Usually I always "swot up" on all the new releases changes but I downloaded .75 in a hurry and fired it up without checking - so my bad!
