Things that need to be back!
OK by now we all know the changes well. But I have to say the fallowing get me a bit upset:
Removal of tanks from almost all USMC maps: I know your trying to do mechanized infantry warfare, but with all do respect the simple fact that a mechanized infantry unit can have up to 3 tanks, 4 APCs, and a **** load of logistics vehicles means that your not being realistic.
It would be way more correct to have less APCs, and more trucks, and heavy jeeps.
Removal of the DPV: I don't know why this vehicle was cut from the mod, but the only thing that the fans wanted was a Mark19 on the DPV for the side gunner. There was no real reason to cut this vehicle from the mod totally.
Removal of most jets, and aircraft: Again I know and understand the reason but there is no way that a Marine unit on a map like Jabal would go and attack a well fortified beach head, and dam without some type of jet cover for their choppers. It dose not have to be a JSF, but a F18 would be nice. Also why is it the Cobra is gone from all the USMC maps?
Lack of open maps: Again I understand your trying to be with the times but for what reason should there be over 13 infantry maps, and only 3 good open armor maps? BF2 is prised for it's use of almost all vehicles on every map in the game and that each map has something for all to enjoy. I think in their drive to be more realistic the developers have lost site of what made the game great in the first place: Go any where use anything, and take that flag with any vehicle you want.

I do miss my ammo/repair humvee, driving across the map to help tankers a like. But I can see why they removed it.

hmm nice idea, exept the DPV just use more armoured vechiles or MULE and why isn't the armour good ? just remove the apc . use an f-22 raptor in an large map , more steath, unique cockpit , ...
and can we please use an NLOS-c.
change a anti-air into a mk110.
and in al basrah use an E-smaw.

Okay, will address these points in turn.Gunwing wrote:OK by now we all know the changes well. But I have to say the fallowing get me a bit upset:
Tanks in PR are very very serious assets. They're not the tin cans from vBF2 that can be taken out without too much trouble (I used to go tank hunting, solo), they're evil buggers that can mow down 50-100 guys in a single round without too much trouble at all.Gunwing wrote: Removal of tanks from almost all USMC maps: I know your trying to do mechanized infantry warfare, but with all do respect the simple fact that a mechanized infantry unit can have up to 3 tanks, 4 APCs, and a **** load of logistics vehicles means that your not being realistic.

As such they seriously effect gameplay on any map they're placed on. Combat on a tanked map can basically be reduced down to "Kill the enemy tanks" instead of "take the flags" because whichever side has their tanks alive will win.
The DPV was removed as it's not in extensive use by the US Army or US Marine Corps. It's used (almost exclusively, as I understand) by the SEALs.Gunwing wrote: Removal of the DPV: I don't know why this vehicle was cut from the mod, but the only thing that the fans wanted was a Mark19 on the DPV for the side gunner. As for its armamnet, it's generally either equipped with a single .50, two LMGs in a fore/aft arrangement or a single grenade launcher. AFAIK, you won't find it with a LMG and a HMG mounted simultaniously.
Again, jets are seriously overpowering (as they should be). As such they're used in a very limited number of maps because if you place a PR jet on a small PR map, the team with the jet has the capacity to completly wreck the other team.Gunwing wrote: Removal of most jets, and aircraft: Again I know and understand the reason but there is no way that a Marine unit on a map like Jabal would go and attack a well fortified beach head, and dam without some type of jet cover for their choppers. More importantly, jets in PR now go very fast; much faster than in BF2. Unless they're on a 17km^2 map like Kashan or Qinling, they simply don't have the airspace to fly.
We have a lack of maps, full stop - maps of all sorts are badly needed. However, I will say that we really do have lots of open maps:Gunwing wrote: Lack of open maps: Again I understand your trying to be with the times but for what reason should there be over 13 infantry maps, and only 3 good open armor maps? Fool's Road
Kashan Desert
Battle for Qinling
Al Kufrah Oilfields
Jabal al Burj...
Sure, they don't all use tanks but so what? A tank is a single vehicle; there are plenty of others to use.
What you have to bare in mind is that " Go any where use anything, and take that flag with any vehicle you want" simply isn't what PR is about. Battlefield 2 is based on that concept, PR isn't.
You're not supposed to go and take a flag with an attack helicopter (as you can do in vBF2) ; they just aren't used like that at all. Choppers do not land at areas of tactical importance and sit there.
If you try and capture a flag using a Z-10 or an AH-64 in PR, you will die, and very quickly too. Which is how it should be. PR forces you to use assets in a somewhat more realistic manner.

Is there any jets in pr any more? I havent seen any in any of the maps ive played yet.
Its unfortunate, something a few of us (at least me) kept saying was that if you wanted infantry combat go play Americas army, if you want vast large scale battles go play ArmA, pr (at that time at least) wasn't superposed to be either of these, but now it feels a lot more like americas army but with stupidly large maps with a lack of armour etc to be used in them.
what's the point in the large maps if for example sunset city, all the combat is around one flag (apparently the 64 player map now only has 3 flags and only one that combat centres around.).
At this rate we may as well take out tanks, apc's and jets altogether, just reduce the maps size to the city limits or flag area limits and just let it be a shoot out, it will reduce the amount of travelling at least and hopefully reduce the time of the game.

Hm... one thing that I think needs to be back is the "Hi, we just gave you this kit" for the team/squad...
Since you don't know what kits people have unless you go to the squad screen... don't know what kits they requested...
That feature needs to be back...
JETS are fine, when not in PR. They're very, very powerful in the hands of a good pilot.
The other day (pre .75) I saw the USMC have two A10s up... I don't think that ought to happen, one A10 is powerful... two is just murder.

Actually, all of those maps do use tanks (militia t-62). So that's 5 open maps with tanks.[R-MOD]Masaq wrote:

Plus Qwai River has tanks on the Chinese side, and that's pretty big. So it's six as far as i know.

Agreed.Ghost1800 wrote:Al Basrah has A tank... and it feels extremely out of place while using it on that map.
@Eden: why dont you give PR v0.75 a spin? I think youll find it does offer what you say.... as for jets, Im surprised you havnt played Kashan Desert yet, it has jets and is an extremely popular map, although there is different versions (16 is just infantry/jeeps, 32 is attack heli, 64 is jets)
