Spambots

Post by Dunehunter »

When you notice a spambot, please, please don't reply to it. Report it, pm a moderator or admin who is online, but don't give it any attention. That'll just get us more of them. Thank you.

Not to sound like a "noob" but, wtf is a spambot really?
Never argue with an idiot, he will just drag you down to his level and beat you by experience ;)

Like when someone or something made an account here to advertise shoes. A spambot is basically a program that makes a forum account or just any other kind of account automatically and advertises something (spam)

That's the specific thread that caused me to make this one. I understand that it's tempting to use it as a temporary spam thread, but please show some constraint.

Yeah so is it a possibility to make like a question when you register that asks you what the site is dedicated to. I have seen it implemented on other sites to hinder spambots.

Why aren't you deleting the spam threads but just locking them?

DO NOT POST IN SPAM BOT THREADS

Post by Wasteland »

If users post in spam bot threads, I will begin issuing infractions to the offenders for "useless/unhelpful post content".

Sorted.

As DH said - please use the "report this post" option to let us know about spam threads without responding to them.

GeZe: Anyone with moderation rights can click on the tick-box for the OP in a spam thread, then select the "Delete as Spam" option from the drop down moderation menu.

This gives us the awesome ability to delete the post, any other posts that user has made (thus deleting any spam threads started), and then permaban them, all in one screen.

It's pretty fun :D

Copy that, will pass the word up the CoC. You don't have a little inverted arrow (pointing downwards) on the top bar of each post, next to the post's ID number in the thread do you?

Report post has never really worked well on any forum I've moderated anyway, since it usually sends an email (often only to one person) instead of a PM. I don't check my email all that often, as I'm sure lots of people don't.

So the best thing to do is to PM a mod or dev that's online.

kk, np.

Until it's sorted, please PM a mod if you see a spambot :)
