MEC basic kit weapons
Right now we have a quite funny thing happening from time to time.
The basic kits have the G3A3. Officer and Scoped Rifleman have a Scope on it.
Now, the difference between Scoped Rifleman and unscoped Rifleman is only the Scope.
But the G3 is only useful at some range in game. The recoil is huge. The G3 sucks in CQB. So there is no real reason to chose the version with ironsights.
For CQB, some people started using the crewman kit, because it has an MP5. The MP5 sucks where the G3 is good, but rocks where the G3 sucks. It has very little recoil and is useful at CQ.
Now, since it has been talked about in a thread in the infantry tactics forum, i think it may be worth giving it its own thread:
What about giving the non-scoped rifleman an MP5, or adding a kit thats like a rifleman rifleman kit, just without a rifle but with the MP5?
The player could chose between the scoped G3, a weapon for really long range, or the MP5 a CQB weapon.
Another idea would be giving the Engineer the MP5. As "PDW" (well, not really) and in combination with the door braching shotgun, as weapon for clearing rooms.
Since the MEC is fictional, you can do anything with their equipment, that would make any sense. And a bit assymetrical balance is never bad i think - the MEC faction would get a bit different from the others by having two extremes, the almost-marksman-G3 and the CQB-MP5 instead of an allround rifle.
Or is it unrealistic?
Would it hurt gameplay?
Was it even worth creating a thread?
Should i just stfu?
Where is the toilet, anyway? Why do forums never have a toilet?

Yeah, like I said in the other thread, it HAS been brought up before, back when Spec Ops was going to become a limited kit. We talked about a "pointman" kit which was just the rifleman with a less recoil heavy weapon.

So what role does this have in the grand scheme? Just for crewman? https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f66-co ... g3ka4.html

Uhm... well, the K version doesnt really have less recoil, does it? If parachute maps will ever return, the weapon would be perfect for it.

Would it hurt gameplay? Perhaps, it is a new factor for an SL or CO to consider in relation to squad loadout, but may also augment the squad ablities favourably
Was it even worth creating a thread? sure, why not

The biggest argument against something like this was realism, but I would like to point out that the MEC does not need to follow a similar doctrine as the U.S/U.K forces. I like to think of the Germans in WW2, in how they had firearms specifically made and issued for urban/trench/CQB environments.
I would add a whole new class to their arsenal (CQB Kit), or replace the ironsight G3 with the HK53 (Speaking of which, I never heard of the MEC getting the MP5).

The reason why i said MP5 is that the HK53 might be a bit too powerful and it could become unbalanced again. The MP5 is just as extreme as the G3, while the HK53 is less different to the other 5.56mm weapons. And the HK53 is pretty rare i think irl, compared to the MP5.

Re: MEC basic kit weapons
Sorry for bump, but I think this is something worth discussing.
I've been thinking about this for some time now. If the MEC where a RL-army some of their frontline-troops surely would have been issued either SMGs or carbines to make up for the sucky CQB-performence of the G3. The Carl Gustav SMG (known as the "Swedish K" in the english-speaking world) was widely used within the Swedish army when they were using the G3 for this reason.
Have the Devs said anything about this suggestion, btw?

Do you see anything about it up there? ^^^

Re: MEC basic kit weapons
I am not high skill at infantry at all so that might explain it, but I got only one kill with the G3 on 16 EJOD and died various times before I thought, stuff this and got the crewman kit. Then I got 3 more kills without dying...

Hint: don't use full auto mode in CQC, it helps a lot.

Re: MEC basic kit weapons
The AK-101 would be a better fit than the MP5/HK53A3. Not only is it an awesome CQB weapon, it has the stopping power of any other 5.56mm weapon in the game...

Re: MEC basic kit weapons
Which would make it overpowered compared to the other factions. The idea was to give one weapon thats only for CQB, and one thats only for ranged combat, instead of one thats good for both, like the other factions.
Also, the MP5 would fit in the G3 family of weapons the MEC uses, and they use 7.62 and 9mm, another caliber would be too much (heavy weapons excepted)

Re: MEC basic kit weapons
What kind of range capability does the AK-74M have? Is it as range-handicapped as the HK53A3 or MP5?

Why AK if they are using the G3 series weapons?

Re: MEC basic kit weapons
If you'd ask me, yes. The MEC need one, and they are fictional enough so we can chose. The rest are fine with the equipment they have, since its more alround stuff than the G3 and MP5 would be. The MEC riflemen would be "specialized" on either cqb or ranged combat.
