Bi Ming used to be at night, but it wasn't a very popular map, so was changed to daytime.

Bi Ming night was great, is it really gone? It was sad that more servers didn't play it. The fact is half the people who played it didn't know about the night vision. Bi Ming day is cool and it's nice to see the detail textures and all that but the night map added something different to the game. There are quite a few forest maps and the fact that Bi Ming was at night bought some contrast to this.

I thought the thing about night is that's it's dark and when it's dark you can't see much and if your into the whole reality thing then this might appeal to you because with it being dark and not being able to see much it makes it kinda realistic. Enough nighttime fire-fights happen to warrant night maps like Bi Ming surely.

It wasn't a lagfest at least not for me. I have a reasonable graphics card and I tend to play on servers with a low ping so it was fine. Also most of the people I regularly played with on TS quite liked it and we had some pretty cool games there. It's sad to see it go if it has.

The thing is that they are simply not worth the effort. You have to make sure that the players can't gamma hack (increase their gamma to see as if it was day) and other technical things like that. Then if you menage to make a decent night map, no one play it because no one likes to be ambushed by targets they don't even have a chance to play.

bi ming was awesome as a night map. It's a very good map now too but night was just so much more fun.
There was also mashtuur city night version, which was quite nice too.

But.. well night maps are a lot harder to play because you don't see that well. It requires communication, patience and stealth. All 3 of those being qualities that about 97% of bf2 players don't have. So.. most people just end up getting killed all the time and they don't want to play the map anymore and so the server gets empty.

It is insanely difficult to stop players glowing and get the NVGs to work for everyone.
yeh I noticed that too, with googles off players would look like those DNAaltered fluorescent rats.
but after all they got the NVG to work, no battery reload time for instanse..
maybe just increase the viewfield a bit, and make them mandatory?
