I run Vista HP that been upgraded from XP and sit on both sides of the fence. I would like to configure a dual boot , they tell me it can be done, then i could have my cake and eat it too . But right now i'm having , after join game in the multiplayer mod , an error message " A problem has caused program to stop working " And also no maps to choose from in Single Player Mod. Any Sugestions are welcome. But on the whole i like Vista but it dont like Me .

You said it exactly. You have heard too much BS. Most of the people doing the talking have no idea, and are just repeating what they have heard.

80% of the problems people claim to have come from people trying to upgrade their old computers or they have a hardware issue, and they just assume it is vista to blame. Like the noob posting right now in this forum with 2 posts about the same thing claiming how horrible vista is.

The vast majority of people building their own modern system or buying a good quality up to date store bought (and I don't mean the **** ones on sale for $699) and using at least 2 gigs of RAM don't have near the problems.

I am glad a lot of people are sticking with XP. It saves me the hassle of listening to them whine in the forums about why they get some low FPS only running with 512mb of RAM in vista.

As for linux, go for it. Then be prepared to spend hours every week fighting to get your computer to do the same things you did in XP with ease. I have played with linux a lot over the last few releases, and it is no where near ready for prime time. Interesting news is they are finally about to release WINE 1.0 (google it if you have no clue) which should make it possible to do a lot more windows apps on linux, and maybe even game.
It has actually been in development for over 15 years. So for all you complaining about it taking MS 6-7years between XP and Vista, have fun sitting around with linux waiting for new developments. I do have my fingers crossed that in a couple of years linux will actually be an option, just so MS will have some competition and will lower windows prices.

I run dual boot xp and vista on my system and linux(ubuntu) on my laptop.
You are right that vista is no where near as bad as many people make it out to be. In desktop use I think vista handles itself just fine, I dont see any really notable slowups comparing to xp.
But in terms of gaming, XP in my experience just works so much better. WiC, Crysis, ArmA, CoH to name a few just run simply smoother in XP. So thats why im sticking with XP as my primary OS.
As for linux on my slightly older lap top, and it works great for me. It does take some effort and understanding of the OS.(Im not saying you dont, I dont know you)

What things you couldnt get running with it what you did on it you did in XP with ease? Could you name a few examples? The great thing about linux is that they are community run and develop all the time! Not like with microsoft where you have to wait and wait for service packs forever that eventually offer very little if any improvement (Vista SP1).

Good discussions guys, looking at the poll numbers, as of this point, the majority of us are using Vista (56.5%).

*I am looking forward to SP1 for Vista, I don't have any problems playing BF2 with my brand new Vista system, but it does do funny things to me once in a while, like the HD taking off full tilt and slowing my machine down for no reason (and nothing showing up on the task manager for eating up any resources), or the random failure to load drivers (last week it told me my web cam was unplugged, well kinda hard for that to happen since it's a built in camera).
*I've had some buggy issues with sound devices too, mostly due to the timing of when I plug/unplug my USB headset.
*It does seem to boot up quicker, and I like the Aero interface.
*I don't like the new system navigation (the way the folders come up, and the lack of an "up" button when browsing folders).
*And UAC drives me nuts, I've disabled it (that was the one thing which kept me from playing) but I still get the "You UAC is disabled" warning on start up.
*I cannot play WIC for more than 10 minutes, I get a video driver CTD, I ran the MS patch for it, was able to play, but the next boot up took 15 minutes, and Vista automatically removed the patch (the auto fix was a nice touch).
*Oh, and if I pause a DVD while watching it and close the lid (computer stays on) I get the following message:
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

Yes, drivers are up to date. I clear that message and am immeadiately able to restart the video (just have to note where I am in the movie).
Its mostly just annoying stuff, I long for the relative stability of XP.

I use Windows Vista Home-Pre. 64bit. I have not found any problems with the OS at all. Just that sometimes my video settings get changed in my games.

i have vista ultimate 32 bit and the one problem i have is that I cant get Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Zs to work even with the vista drivers and that in pr i get big lag. It ran smooth in xp, it think it might due to my 46 background process or that i am running on aero. other than that i like vista.

I hope everyone who is dual-booting Vista and XP knows Vista screws up your XP restore points when you boot into Vista.Take steps to back up restore points to CD,DVD or remote storage ( I think PRO can do that without a 3 party app) before you find out the hard way. I read about this a while back and sure Vista sp1 may have fixed it but what are the chances they fixed everything that needs work?

YES Vista gamers take a hit in performance now. Hopefully the drivers will get better as developers get better with it.

Vista home prem 64 with 2 gigs runs PR fine while Windows Media Center records TV with my other cpu.

Using both XP SP2 and Vista SP1.
BF2+PR installed under Vista and my main concern about V is getting the most from my X-Fi on Ultra High audio settings.
Maybe it's just my imagination, but X-Fi sounds better under XP.

I'm using Vista 64 bits since i got 4 gig of ram and i cant roll back to XP32, but in general vista is a "correct" operating system, if you're PC suck you will have many prob, if it dont, it will run like a rolls.

I got a M2N32 Professional MoBo, 2 8800GTS 640, AMD6000+ 2x3.2Ghz, Enermax Galaxy 1000watts, 4 gig of Crucial runing at 1ghz whit a Raptor 10K 16Mb cache in SATA... it run everything i throw to it, even Crysis on my 50" plasma TV on ULTRAHIGH lol.

Dual booted for a bout a year. Now im using just XP because for me personally, I find it to be better of the 2. My old laptop which was running Ubuntu died of old age so I went out and got MacBook, which has turned out to be a very positive experience.

Nah, the mac is for work mostly. I dont think BF2 works on the mac platform, with bootcamp it does ofcourse. But overall I really like the Mac OS, it really suits me what I need from my laptop right not.
