Operation Archer => Civilians

Post by General_J0k3r »

First, I would like to express my gratitude for bringing op. archer into the mod. it is such a BEAUTIFUL map with such NICE gameplay that i wet my pants every time i play it (only problems are baserapers and idiotic pilots, but hey, players are hardcoded ;) ). i play it very often even though the server crashes after EACH round and sometimes during the round but that does seem to neither stop me nor others to rejoin all the time which illustrates how GREAT this map is :D . thank you :) .

now my suggestion/question: why are there no civies on archer? right now, it is like that:

cache information is obtained. one sets out in a huey (or, for the sake of firepower, with 2 hmmws) for the village where the cache is spotted. then, one takes the hills around it and establishes a base of fire. once this is done, i would usually have:

1 or 2 hmmws, 1 LAT/HAT, 1 support, laying waste to the village completely. it is done quickly and swiftly with this kind of firepower. the setup may be augmented by a grenadier pounding as well. once the village has been layed waste to which usually includes all the insurgent spawns, one would move in and take out the cache. this preparation makes it impossible for the insurgents to use appropriate tactics like IEDing half of the village and waiting till the NATO forces are inside and then blowing the **** out of them.

so: why don't we have civies? it would

a) enable the insurgents to spot USMC earlier and easier
and
b) make the tactic mentioned above costly in terms of tickets because such a strategy of indiscriminate destruction of everything, now being extremely useful, would definitely kill some civies which one should obviously avoid
and
c) make it necessary to identify targets making the use of extreme firepower more difficult.

what do you guys think?

I do agree, The other day i was playing Op Arch, and I was wondering where the civi kit was.
I just guessed that the devs didn't think civis would be as useful on the map seeing as the fighting would be always kinda be long range engagmennts. It would be very hard due to draw distances to tell who's a civi and who's not.

The only thing that i can say about the map is that I don't like how hilly it is.

At the end of the round it would be like, Sarge 14 kills, Hills 201 kills

I think its fine, but if so make it a limited kit, because it sucks having 1 of every 2 a civie. FH2 style limiting or just limited kit?

People just go civie to get shot and half the insurgents I see are civies, not to mention they are very similar now.

let em get shot. the usmc will loose a shitload of tickets. that is exactly my point. we have lowered the usmc tickets on our server so that the insurgents have a chance and with civvies getting killed all the time the usmc will looose ;)

As said before;

It seems better to me if the US have to come closer to check the insurgs out if they are armed or not. Instead of staying at a safe distance and scope everything down they see. Unfortunately a lot of players act like this then go well-grouped after the caches.

I miss civilians as well, seeing as the insurgents have a disadvantage in a ranged firefight, civilians would keep it balanced.

Lovely map nonetheless.

Please no civilians on archer. That would make no sense. This is not a city, civilian had time and space to get the hell out of dodge. Any remaining people are to be considered hostile insurgents.

Yeah, I'd like to see civis.
However, maybe they should be reskinned(even remodeled!) to represent Afghan civilians.

I like it this way..

For gameplays ake don't add the civ's in this map.. will have bad results when JDAMning the village

every player on op archer should be killable. If i was driven out of my home and had a militia from the same area who were protecting it, do you think the militia would agree with my peaceful protest style? no. they would say, heres a gun, fight for your freedom and your god, or you are no better than the enemy and a coward.

if i was a civie in that small town, i dont think i would have any choise but to pick up arms and fight for my freedom. the only civies that should be on Op archer or Al Basra, would be women and children and i dont think the censorship dudes would be pleased at that. :)
