What is a forum?

Post by space »

OK guys - maybe you think its a strange question, but I kind of presumed a forum was a place for open discussion where people can openly air their views within the rules of the forum.
Anyway it would appear that any discussion of servers is not allowed ( no mention in forum rules ) despite certain threads creating massive interest. Again any profanity is not allowed dispite there being no mention in the rules, plus the forum is based on a game involving people being shot, knifed and blown up! If you break these rules you recieve "infraction points" (whatever they are) without warning. Is this normal for a forum or am I missing something? Or maybe the forum rules need to be revised?

I don't know about servers but language is covered in the server rules and is basically at the discretion of the R-MODs.

Infraction points seem to be a not well thought out warning system that usually results in a ban, again based solely on the opinion of the R-MOD dispensing those points.

Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

Correct. Moderators make the decision when vulgar language is a warnable offense. These are the rules that are stated when you agreed to them.
Respect
Respect every forum member and moderator. All forum posters are to be treated equally with respect. Repeatedly using vulgar language and flaming somebody is not acceptable behaviour. Respect Forum Moderators, as they are the authority of the forums. Speaking to them with intentional spite will not be tolerated and may result in the loss of your forum privileges. Furthermore, moderators treat everybody as equals and abide by all the forum rules.
Well, they are actually there to make a warning have a very real meaning. If you have made enough mistakes in a period of time then you will be banned for a period of 7 days. (note: this only happens when infraction points reach 10, or we Section 6 ban.) Its acceptable, and I think its necessary to have the rules enforceable.

Spacemanc, if you had really read the rules though, and it shows that you indeed have not. Im dissapointed that you have not read them but have agreed by them and want them changed. We have rules here that the DEVs have set, revised, and enforced since before your appearence, and they have worked remarkably well. Their is fair warning for any infraction or warning that we deliver from the moment that you have clicked the agreement. This is the second thread regarding the rules, and moderation activities, so why could you have not done it in the first? Because this is more of a rant than a discussion at this point I am locking your thread. If you have any more thoughts on the matter, PM me.

I assume that you're referring to the fact that I issued you four infraction points for deciding to engage in some unsolicited TG-bashing, including the little gem of "their rules are [deleted]ed up".

Yeah, you're not going to get away with making unsubstantiated attacks on a large and respected PR community. If you have a problem with TG's rules, go to their forums and discuss them. Alternatively you can start a thread here and discuss things in a respectful tone.

I have yet to see you demonstrate an understanding of the concept of respect, however. So perhaps your stay with us will be short lived.

The Infraction Points system is stickied in this very section of the forums:

So, if you can't be bothered to read the rules, can't be bothered to read stickied posts and can't be bothered to show some respect and courtesy for others when you post, please explain to me (via PM) why you think we should spend one iota of our time watching over you to ensure you follow those rules in place?

As Wasteland has said - you can discuss servers in the server discussion section in a polite and reasoned way. You can use "bad" language, so long as it's not excessive and not aimed at anybody in particular. Basically, think about how you'd swear in front of an elderly vicar/priest/iman/insert-religious-leader-based-on-preference-local-culture-or-other, and use that as your guide.
