When someone pointed that thing at a flag and took out a few guys, attacking that flag suddenly became alot easier cause the force holding it just kept their heads down.

Hm, the only reaction I've ever encountered was "Jeez, some freak got the 50 cal again. Let's hunt him down."

I agree with $kelet0r. It was only good to encourage people to keep on spamming the chat, asking about its loaction. I quite like it's gone.

lol, well what about making it as a "Heavy Sniper" kit? 2 Per team, or something like that, it could work.

said the man with the name gay
I think the multitudes of soldiers on Americas Army said that the 50 caliber rifle is used more than people want to admit.

What does sexual orientation have to do with being overly-obsessed with a gun?

The M82 doesn't do anything different to the regular sniper rifles in-game except they're not as noisy.

Because half the team rushed to the secret hiding places, where the rifles were hidden on the maps, weapon was generally abused by 1337sn1p3rboi's and lone wolfs, contributed nothing to teamplay aspect and so on.

The Chinese thought they would serve a greater purpose on Bi Ming. Anyways, back on topic. In my opinion the reasons the M82 has been removed from the mod are as follows:
  • It moved the focus of game from, "securing the objective" or "cache hunting/defending" (in the case of Al Basrah) to, "find the M82" and failing that, "find the guy with the M82, kill him and take the M82"
  • It gave an unfair advantage to the team who was in possession of it (as they didn't have to expend resources capturing it from the other team/finding it thus allowing them to actually cap flags)
  • It spawns thread after thread on the issue which gives headaches to the moderators and the community in general
  • It was ineffective/unrealistic in completing two of its real life roles (see below)
  • It was unrealistic in its effects on materiel (eg: a shot to an engine block from a .50 cal firing presumably an anti-materiel round would not disable a vehicle)
  • It was ineffective in its role of explosive ordinance disposal (ie shooting explosives with it would not disable them)

I Liked the gun. It was fun to use. Uzi was a nice touch also. But I can see why it was removed. From what I understand. The gun in real life is as an anti-materiel weapon. It's job is to disable vercles and long range detonation of explosives. This has not been coded in to PR at this time and so the gun had to go so as to keep game play on the right track.

I Do miss it. Bet I don't regret it's removal.

I think they should put it pack in.... as a gun only one team can have... and it spawns in random predestined area... (like caches) and has like a 30 min wait after someone loses the kit... thus making th person with it not want to lose it... and making sure ppl still play... yeah...
