three letters for k&m helicopter throttle control: TAP
don't hold - tapping gives you a huge amount of control - the quicker you tap, the smoother you can execute maneuvers

Yes I figured that out today. Tapping the decelerate makes coming down very easy while holding it just make the nose want to rise and then I lose attitude control and bug out until I die.
I guess tapping replicates the act of holding the collective in a particular throttle position.
For hovering near the ground, like 2 meters off, I find it drops down a lot so I guess that tapping really fast on accelerate would work there too?
I've finally gotten the hang of the Huey and now I don't waddle or fishtail with it. I can pretty easily come in hard and fast at a flat angle towards the carrier deck and flare at the last second and land perfectly on that landing square that juts out. The only real hazard that makes me crash is hitting uneven ground as a result of trying to land or because I hover and drop down 2 meters and get thrown off in one direction or another by hitting a non flat object or piece of terrain.
Oh and is it actually feasible to fly with a joystick? Just curious really.

Very much so, I only use joystick. The throttle control is far superior.PFunk wrote:Oh and is it actually feasible to fly with a joystick? Just curious really.

So which throttle do you use and joystick? I'm currently looking at the Saitek x52 since I plan on using it with IL-2 1946. But I wonder if a throttle designed for a plane would be effective for a helicopter.Alex6714 wrote:Very much so, I only use joystick. The throttle control is far superior.
Oh and I've found my preferred keyboard and mouse settings for the Huey. 8.5 3 3. Seems to offer the best reaction time versus controllability.

Yes and trying the tapping out I find that its hard to get it to be even no matter how fast I do it. So keeping a hover, especially with the Huey is tricky. Of course thats forced me to deal with the trickiness of the Huey's handling anyway. Steady hands.LeoBloom. wrote:Exactly. But that's why I prefer a joystick when it comes to this. The throttle is much more responsive when I need to do landings.

Yes it is great, but its not perfect. I find it very easy to start to swing one way or another when looking off in another direction, and it also seems that when you press L-CTRL and get that side out with the HUD view the controls are opposite so you can't actually control it as well.
Can you use the hat switches to look around on the joystick?
