a different use for airstrikes.

Post by charliegrs »

how about make a gamemode that would require a certain point {or points} on the map to be hit by a laser guided bomb to win the round, not the JDAM, but the laser guided bombs on the jets., and the other team has to keep the attackers from getting close enough to designate the target. make the target something like a very important {destructable} building. say something like this:

the attackers: a small contingent of US marines has to designate and airstrike a series of PLA bunkers that have anti tank cannons in them so that the marine armored columns can move forward {the tanks are not in the map, this is just for storyline purposes.} marine assets: hummers, no tanks, no APCs, no JDAMS, and please please bring back F-18s with laser guided bombs. if not then f 16s or A 10s.

the defenders: a PLA division that is manning the bunkers. the bunkers could have machine guns as well, which will make it hard for the USMC to target them. maybe give them APCS too. and maybe one AA tank. if all the bunkers get blown up by airstrikes, the PLA loses. and the PLA gets tons of tickets like insurgents do so that the USMC has to complete the objective to win.

this could be done a million different ways, with differnet factions. but the general idea is the attacking team has to use the teamwork and communication involved with airstrikes to win the round. they would have to have a commander, and good pilots, people who are good at spotting, and a team that will keep the spotters alive {using suppressive fire etc} since i really dont see this going on much in the current maps that have jets with bombs.

Sounds fun, but what stops the pilots just bombing the bunkers/ airstrips without Laser guidance.

because thats not easy. although it is possible, maybe theres a way to code it so the bunker would only blow up if its designated?

Id still like a game mode that seems to require a bunch of objectives...

For example Brits/US start with only infantry... first the Brit/US team has to capture a supply line that runs through a village rhis grants them armoured support, if succesful they have to rebuild a bridge on the supply line, the opposition has to stop them. Third the Brits/US have to capture an airbase, once captured the Brits/US are granted JETs anf helo support, which they have to use their jets, and SOLFLAM laser and destroy the enemy base. Boom game over, obviously the other team has to prevent them.

Id like to see this with loads of tickets and no time limit. :D sorry for the hijack, this seems quite possible to me from the other game modes currently avilable but i could be wrong.

sounds like this would fall under the ambiguous scenario game mode

I don't see a game mode like this being fun for a long time.
However, if the scenario mode ever gets ready for release then designating an airstrike would be a great objective for a map or two. (not the only objective obviously, you get the point)

well i dont think a round like this would last very long anyway, especially if you actually have people who are good at coordinating airstrikes. but that seems to be not very common on pub servers, so these rounds may last longer than you would think.

A good objective for the scenario mode all-encompassingly for sure

*sigh

except that in reality you don't need a soflam to designate a bomb. Or a laser.

this could be easily done via scenario mode, where you just have objectives you need to destroy and you have the option of getting a jet to bomb it if you have air support on the map.

Have the jet spawn after an hour then.

I forgot all about scenario mode. I cant wait for its return.

Scenario wasnt in any old versions, single objective is the gamemode your probaly thinking about which was in v0.3

and you wouldnt make the jet spawn for a hr, its like telling a team to sit tight for 1hr and get board till a jet spawns so you can win, a much better way to do it would be to give the defenders very strong AA and lots of fighters.
