Why limit the discussion to the M82? The PLA/MEC can have the Denel NTW20/Steyr IWS 2000, respectively; the Canadians have the TAC-50 (apparently being used in Afghanistan); the Russians can use the KSVK 12.7, and we could even give the Militia faction a Gepárd M1 to balance things out.
Even if we all thought this was a good idea, coding it would be a huge effort.
Why was the Berrett M82 taken out of the game?

(Here comes the bashing)
Tacticalgamer.com has had a long history of awarding ribbons to players for all sorts of actions on the battlefield. As far as I know, I am the only TG-PR player that has earned the Distinguished Sniper ribbon.
I've spent enough time with the kit to know that the M82 was a load of ****. This is PROJECT REALITY. There's no bare minimum on training or any prerequisites to grab the nearest sniper kit and go. The M82 didn't even need to be requested: Whoever sprinted to it first won it.
The kit didnt reward patience, or teamplay. It rewarded players for their kdr's. Even after you picked up the kit, as soon as the enemy on the other team (who also wanted it) heard you he'd make it his personal vendetta to kill you. So, that's at least 1 guy every round that, instead of something useful, had to go hunting for a lonewolf.
The M82 bred lonewolfs.
The sniper is hardly even played effectively anymore by most players that use it.
Since this is project reality...
If you want to become a better sniper, read the right material.
