Since it's likely that the BRDM-2 is going to be on the third militia map, and will more than likely be on the militia urban map I'm doing once the Russian faction is good to go, I think it might be great to give the BRDM-2 a little love.
Currently, it's a top-heavy tin can with a insanely weak main cannon. I could be wrong, but I'm very sure I more quickly kill jeeps with the MG than the main cannon on that thing. For some strange reason, the driver view has the "tank camera". I assumed this was to give it a zoom, representing one of the (6 frigging) periscopes on it. It's also amphibious, which is nice on Fools Road I guess.
This edition has four seats, replacing the five it used to have. This is realistic as it has four seats IRL, but it loses the firing ports it used to have.
I would like to suggest that the BRDM-2 get an upgrade. These upgrades are:
*Standard view for driver AND co-driver, but hitting the "change view" key switches the the zoomable periscope. This is slightly above the vehicle IIRC. The commander (guy in back) should get this as well.
*Cannot really comment on the gunner view, but that gun needs some sort of boost. I mean, that's the same cannon type that formed the ZPU-4's weapon.
*Is there a way to make it less flip happy? The thing acts as if 100% of it's mass is on top of the turret. It should be able to traverse rougher terrain without the issues it has now.
Now, the biggest problem is that it's being used as some sort of combat vehicle. It's not. The thickest armor on it is a tad over a CM, so it definitely is not. Hell, the .50 on the Landy takes the thing out for Christ sakes. If you're crewing one, you should either be A) Supporting a bunch of infantry B) Be falling back at the first sign of any serious contact. The down side is that the technical is faster, holds more troops, and has "better" fire power. It also does not require a crewman kit, so it's often the best vehicle for the job of scouting, if anyone DOES any scouting at all. Most of the time these just get wasted.
The Spandrel mounted one is an interesting variant, but it fires rockets slowly and is still unstable as hell on anything rougher than the main road.
There are a **** load of variants for this thing (including a few that would make sense for the militia to own), and I swear I will one day own a civilian converted version, but I would like to half-heartedly suggest one for the guys on Archer (it was found in Afghanistan):

i agree !
also , the brdm is an scout/transport vehicle , is not an apc! and afaik ,IRL it dosent need a trained crew to drive that thing , it should be like a militia taxi or something like that .
another thing , like the hummve , the sound "blurr" should go. finaly , the main armament its a 14.5 mm gun , it should be a litle better than a .50 , but not so much .

Not a taxi, no, as it's got fewer seats than a squad would have. The taxi would probably be something like the BTR-60, if we got/needed one. Remember, the Militia is always on the defense.

I guess what would fit more as an APC for the Militia faction would be the BMP-2 or the BTR-60, as the BRDM2 it'S more like a GAZ Vodnik than a modern APC.
I wonder why Militia doesn't have a BMP-2? Is it because of the Opfor stereotype?

After looking in the ditor, the BRDM2 ingame has both desert and forest camo, I agree it would fit perfectly in some afghan maps.Expendable Grunt wrote: There are a **** load of variants for this thing (including a few that would make sense for the militia to own), and I swear I will one day own a civilian converted version, but I would like to half-heartedly suggest one for the guys on Archer (it was found in Afghanistan

I agree that it needs to be made more stable (mind you I'd also like a landrover that doesn't handle like a Japanese street racer).
Regarding the MG, perhaps it could be rearmed with HE-I (which, IIRC, standard fare as far as 14.5mm guns go) ammo rather than the current all SABOT (or at least have a couple of boxes of it) load out, which would mean splash damage would rip up the landrover crews a bit more effectivly.
The spandrel needs to be used like a TOW humvee. Its the Viechle equivelant of a sniper. Its a 1 hit kill for every British Viechle on the map. It might need to be a bit more stable but in reguards to its weapons capability its just fine.
Also, slightly off topic, how come the Schimitar is now 50 cal proof?

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
