Leo.. 500m? that's cloud level. Which... is unrealistic on Kashan, because tanks cant move their turret more than 30-35 degrees... a tank would have to be on the top part of the mountain ridge south of bunkers to even be around that area.
oh...last point.
It's not my fault i'm so good in a tank, when i go up against a noob in a helo that doesnt know how to play a vehicle. Why should my vehicle suffer, when the nubsauce doesnt know how to use theirs effectively?

you can't deny that the turrets move faster than IRL
but you are definately right that ppl need to use assets right.

I posted that thread before finding out how stupidly accurate tanks infact are. Apparently according to the military buffs on the forum if anything shooting down helis should be EASIER, and that tanks should be more pin point accurate then they already are due to the targeting devices used in modern tanks. There isn't really that much skill involved in the shooting at all by the sounds of it, other then maybe target prioritisation, from what I've heard.

When did everyone jump on the "anti-armor" bandwagon.. seriously.. its rediculous.
And i would say that the use of the mouse on the tank is so that it gives the perfect accuracy that you would in a tank, when a commander can auto-designate a target, and have the turret move to the exacte location of that target.
and the reasoning that it should only be implemented as a way to combat the ability tanks have to down helos is retarded. Its the pilots own fault for...
a) moving into an area that has hostile armor
b) having a retarded gunner that doesnt have the aim to take out hostile armor
c) moving into an area without first having the infantry on the ground clear it..
d) having their faction's armor not clear the area so it's free to move in.
use what little brain cells you have left kids... common sense = win.

Ive timed the challenger turret speed, 9 seconds all the way around that's accurate, I couldn't find out the speed for an abrams, ill assume its about the same, though the abrams turret in game is alot faster then 9 seconds.
Im sorry I went to Mars for a second there but im back now and I got T-Shirts for everybody.

don't want auto lock
kilometer is equal to one thousand meters.
Kashan Desert is 17km across = 17,000 meters not 4,000.
A clear view 3x maybe 1,000 but you can still just make out targets out to 1,500 to 2,000 I think with the white outline glitch, so a 1,500 - 2,500 radar range for IDF and only for the pilot should be in place. Don't forget the gunner can laser destinate targets (key 3 R click) and once locked it's fire and forget. But right now the laser is slower than molasses in January and it doesn't stick very well so no one is using it. Having ground forces laser destinate targets is the way to go. Hopefully the system will be tweaked some more in 8. I don't want auto lock. Make the pilot and gunner have to work together. If he can fly smooth enough so the gunner can line up the cross hairs and laser destinate then fine thats team work at its best.
Attack choppers have radar to find and lock targets. Removing the lock for balance is OK but at least allow IDF.
I would love the pilot to be able to "hand off" targets to the gunner.
say the pilot has six green target boxes in his hud. One could be the current destinated target (shown as a heaver green or red box)also shown in the gunners view(gunner sees only one box). The gunner uses the box for target acquisition and must still laser destinate the target for a "lock"as he sees fit. The pilot can cycle through the targets deciding the priority of target engagement.

17 sq km
Opps the map is probably 17 sq km, so closer to what markonymous said, something like 4.13 km across. Still targets should need to be seen to be laser destinated and I still think IDF radar just over visual range would not be over powering.

I'm not sure that nerfing the tanks is the right idea. Its already hard enough to engage a target on the move in a tank. The issue with Tank sniping is that choppers do not have the appropriate engagement ratio. IRL a tank engages at lets say 2-3km, well Choppers are able to engage at 2-7 km.
Tanks aren't the problem, its that using realistic chopper tactics doesn't really help you out that much. Normally chopper pilots would use what terrain they have for concealment and then popup, acquire a target and engage from a range that would be very difficult for a tank to react to.
Its kind of a tricky thing to do within BF2. Eitherway, sitting over the top of a hostile armored area popping the tanks underneath you seems far from realistic. I think there is definite opportunity to adjust the choppers, but it should encourage and facilitate more realistic tactics.
