I usually lead squads, depends on what mood I'm in. I find if I'm too serious, then people get frustrated and leave. I remember madtommy raging at me one night because I wasn't serious enough, was pretty much just messing about since nobody was doing anything.
Today on Bi-Ming I played as a fairly serious squad leader, we came out as top squad on the winning side with a score of 4500. Was a great game, commander was great (TG Nathan) and all the squads were working together and communicating.
What type of squad do you all prefer?

Semi Serious!
I -hate- Anal retentive squads!
<Rant>
I'll choose a squad where the squad-leader has no mic, does not write English and drives off in a one man tank or with a sniper rifle, over an anal retentive squad, any day!
Nothing frustrate me more than a squad-leader who shouts at you over the mic,
"Stay in perfect line, don't you go more than 3 feet away from your fellow squad members -ever-, what are you doing, that is 5 feet at least, get back here or get kicked, I will not move from this position until you all have made a straight line. We are not to travel more than 50 meters from this location, STOP YOU ARE 55 METERS AWAY FROM THE EARLIER LOCATION, I WILL KICK YOU!"
And then pisses about by trying to get x amount of people in to x amount of apcs at x amount of time, spending stupid time driving back forth between enemy location and base, because said apc used -one- of it's missiles and while at the base that is not remotely under enemy fire, spends stupid time having everybody running over to set defensive positions in case one enemy might drive up, in a game where base-raping is not even allowed.
It would annoy me less if it was at all efficient or showed result, but mostly you look at the map and the amount of time the Anal retentive squad has used to piss about, the Semi Serious squads has managed to capture more flags/catches than you, since all they are doing is putting down a rally point, working together by keeping each-other informed, and charging in, in groups with specific assigned jobs.
Story:
I remember one time I was in an anal retentive squad, and the squad leader had the nerve to act all "I am a true PR player I am holier than you, and I shall teach you lesser players the lesson of not caring about kill points." as if the fact we play PR and not Vanilla should make that obvious.
Was in a Insurgent map, and we attacked this area, we ran in after 30 min of pissing about, and finally destroyed our first weapon catch. (the Semi serious Squads had already gotten 4) The area was crawling with Insurgents, and the Squad-leaders ordered us to retreat and not fight back since we have achieved our goal, retreating was difficult with the entire area full of enemy, especially since nobody was covering us or fighting the enemy back, and myself and another got pinned down.
The Squad-leader, rather than choosing to help us, decided we clearly was lagging behind because we enjoyed getting our kill ratio up, got the other two members and himself in an APC and simply abounded us, ordering the other apcs there waiting to leave us behind as well.
</Rant>
Nah give me a Semi serious squad where everybody know what they are doing, work together, listen to the squad-leader, the squad leader listens to his squad, and you operate like a team.
Save the anal retentiveness for Project Napoleon, where you get ordered to form perfect squares, with identical armour and weapons, marching in line under canon fire by a snob on a horse.

uber serious
since lot of ppl i play with, including myself, spent lots of time in pr, we use to act in the ways we found out to be as much as succesfull as the enemy allows us.
there was this moment where we climbed up with 3 men and a "random squaddie" that hilltopbase at op archer and nearly reaching the top, only one more grappling hook to go, he started shouting ingame via spotting a huey, giving away our presence.we told him over voip to stop, but he didnt, and yeah, punish me but i knifed him.
i prefer serious squads, the funny moments will come from alone and getting better the more rare they are.

Ours was crawling across a grassy field in Fools Road by the Train Depot where the Rebels were putting up a good defense.
The 4 of us are almost close enough to get to cover and a big loud "enemy APC spotted!" echoes out, causing grenades and AK fire to pour onto us.
I like semi-serious. We accomplish our goals, and actually talk to each other during "down time" on marches and such. As soon as somebody sees an enemy, or we get close though, it's all business.
PR ain't the military after all. It's a computer representation that we play to try and take in some fun experiances and have a good time. Following orders can be very critical in PR, but it's not like the guy on the other end is going to bust you or give you KP if you tell him there is a better way to do things then his way.

I'm on the fence, i voted Semi-serious
I like people to be on their game and mean business when it counts. But i also need to be able to express some fun once in a while nor do i want to hear about "how was your day" on VOIP.
the other i joined a group and the SL was pretty anal, you pick this kit, you that and so on. not really yelled at us but sure talked alot and complained alot when things werent going exactly as planned...
If you want to be anal and call all the shots, then every mistake is your responsibility, did not assign people to watch so and so staircase and whatnot...
Then in the next round people made a squad "so-and-so isgay".. i joined it, and people kept talking how of an *** he was. and we played nicely together, teamwork and all but in a relaxed environment and the game was much more enjoyable.
