Adding Hooks to Sniper
Can we have the Hook added to Sniper and marksman kits? I mean it makes sense. I always use it to climb INTO houses instead on the roof. In real life snipers would use building access too in urban environments. In Basra I can sometimes convince a civi to help me with it. But on maps like EJOD it is hard to find a specop to help. And btw, why do engineers on "mountain" maps get hooks? I mean the hook is completeley useless on anything that is not 100% vertical. Means in MEstia you can only climb on the roof of one of the houses. Whereas in City maps it offers more possibilities.

I think that is just obsessive realism in theorey. In this game you do not actually need "spotters".In most maps it is very easy to spot on your own. Also there is never someone willing to play the binocular man for you. This hyper realistic talking about Spotters and Snipers possibly works in real life but in this game it is not necessary. I think its a bad thing to make the hyper useful feature of hiding in buildings highly depandant on a class that has a rifle with a weak scope. Means some Specops guy has to take on a boring task so that the sniper can hide properly. And on the whole SF guy thing, the sniper should always have 1 with him for spotter/CQB protection. So really theres no need to.
I mean in urban environments it would be the obvious thing to use buildings as a hiding place as a Sniper. And Marksman. In this game they are more or less the same. With the Marksman being able to cause more damage with the faster firing rifle.
Well they are both guys with scoped rifles. I very often "play on my own". Means I grab a MG or Sniper/MS kit and wander off, alone. Then I set up in a obscure place and wait. So if I play alone I do not really care if I have a DMR and I am supposed to play with my squad. I really like the realism of this game, but I am not too obsessed with the moving in squads thing. There may be a case for the sniper, but DM needs to stay with the squad, I'm seeing too many DMs pretending they are snipers.
I think the engis on mountain maps get it since equipment to traverse rought terrain would be brought along.
This is absolutely pointless ingame. The hook NEVER works for climbing up steep terrain. It only works for 100% vertical things (houses). /at least from what I have seen. And I REALLY tried using the hook on mestia. So basically we get the hook for engineers on maps with almost no places to use it and it is removed on maps where it is actually useful (city maps).
What do you mean?Snipers, *maybe*, due to engine issues

Older maps its better, trust me.(Mao and some others)This is absolutely pointless ingame. The hook NEVER works for climbing up steep terrain. Not alot of engis on the battlefield. What do you mean?
With all the changes its better to also have someone watch a snipers back because once you fire everyone goes to the sound of the rifle. best just to let them come and get killed by a SF guy then a sniper losing kit for whole team and letting them have it.I think that is just obsessive realism in theorey. Wrong. The sniper's loadout doesn't allow him to participate effectively as part of an infantry squad. The marksman can't spot targets for the team. They are two distinct roles, and should be played differently. Not because it's ultra-realism, but because the kits are for different purposes. DM provide more accurate long-range fire for their squad, snipers provide a recon element for the team as a whole. Neither exist solely to pop targets in the head at long distances.cat wrote:I mean in urban environments it would be the obvious thing to use buildings as a hiding place as a Sniper. And Marksman. Riflemen, Marksman, Snipers, Officers, and the PLA (and soon, every) Grenadier kits all come with scoped weapons... does that make them all the same kit? No.
As for enjoying the increased realism, that's fine and great. What you are clearly completely missing is the fact that moving in squads is fundemental to the increased realism, even if what you enjoy is ambushing the enemy in obscure positions. That sniper kit you're lone-wolfing with could be being used in a dedicated sniper team to provide the CO and entire team with accurate map-spots of enemy armour and infantry. Instead, you're sat on a mountain or in a building by youself, without anyone providing you with close-quarter cover.
When you die and the kit goes unrequestable for five minutes (or worse, falls into enemy hands) it's not just you who misses out for that time - your whole team looses access to an asset too.
If you don't like the teamwork element of the mod, please don't play it. Seriously.
As for hooks on the sniper kit? Not a bad idea, but tbh I'd rather see more two-man Sniper/Spec Ops teams than the sniper kit get the rope all on its lonesome.

Cheeky bugger! Do you not know that Okita has proclaimed me as the everclear of win?!
Now, the kit I'd love to see get a rope - the Ambusher. IED death from above!

I normally play casually on servers. perhaps your point of view comes from a more "organized" form of playing. Which I respect. But on "public" servers the situation is quite different I think. That sniper kit you're lone-wolfing with could be being used in a dedicated sniper team to provide the CO and entire team with accurate map-spots of enemy armour and infantry. Instead, you're sat on a mountain or in a building by youself, without anyone providing you with close-quarter c
Provide the CO with information:
1. What if there is not even a commander?
2. What if no1 actually cares? (This happens quite often)
If the above is true (which it is quite often) then I can as well just use the rifle for shooting peple. I mean If I get like 10-20 kills with it instead of relaying information of large vehicles to the commander I would go for the kills. Now I anticipate getting bashed for only going for kills but after all it is a shooter? And removing 10 people from the game for 30 seconds does help my team to win.
Another thing is that lone wolfing was quite often more successful for me than being in a squad. There are 2 things that can work against follwing a squad:
1. SL making bad decisisions
2. Visibility
Note that I use the lone wolfing basically on ANY kit I get. Except Medic. And it can be really effective. It is just that I enjoy hiding from people. I play on normal maps like I would play on Basra as a lone Insurgent. So I think telling me to not play at all because I am "lone-wolfing" is a bit unpolite.

You know what, mate? You're the sort of guy who gives snipers a bad reputation. Only caring about your kills and not helping the team out, exactly the opposite of what the kit is supposed to be used for. Next time, I suggest you leave it for someone else to use.
More guns and bullets make bad guys go away faster,
which in turn makes everyone in the area safer.

I agree with you - hiding out, running alone and making the enemy think they're engaging an entire squad when there's just you or just you and a mate or two can be great fun; I love doing it myself. However if I want to do it I'll grab an engineer kit or the SpecOps kit and actually cause some serious damage to the enemy team - take out some AAA/SAM sites, stop vehicles moving up, hit squads' rallypoints so they assault CPs without a spawn point; stuff that has a noticeable effect on the gameplay.
Killing 10 guys in a team of 300 or so (tickets) is hitting only marginally, very slightly, above the 3.125% of kills a single player in a 32-man team should be getting out of of 300 kills in total. (I'm ignoring ticket bleeds and the fact that players change throughout a round).
But yeah - you kill 10 guys with a rifle, you score 3.333% of the kills needed to win the round.
Kill two tanks with well-placed mines and that's 26 tickets gone (10 for each tank and 3 for each of the crewmen inside) - and bingo, you're accounting for 8.666% of the enemy tickets, or almost three times your "share" of the tickets, with 40% fewer kills!
Quite simply, killing infantry doesn't win battles - Killing assets and taking flags wins battles.
I'm also talking about Pubbie play, and if you're regularly playing on servers with no commander and where nobody cares about where the enemy tanks, APCs, AAVs and bunkers/firebases are - then if I were you, I'd stop playing on those servers because they sound ****!

If I may add more points about the "lone-wolfing":
Vehicles:
0.75 added the delay for gunners on armored vehicles. Now lone wolfing with it is much harder. If I man a tank alone there are disadvantages
and I am actually ok with it. However it is still possible to do it in some situations.
Last night on Basra I was spawning on the main base and there was this monstrous tank. No one was appearing to be interested in it. SO I thought I would give it a go. I grabbed a crewman kit and jumped in. I parked in some distance away from the city and waited. I managed to kill many. Because I was aware of the disadvantages and Advantages. These are trhe delay for being gunner and on the other side the huge range and zoom. so I used it as a fortified emplacement and because of the large distance to any solid building the Insurgents had a really hard time getting in range to attack.
Now. One may say that I "stole" the tank or used it ineffectively but, as I stated before, no one appeared to care about the tank. A non moving fighting tank is still better than a unmanned one yes?

I actually do not request the sniper kit that often. I prefer the DMR because it is far more effective within the closer distances (less than 300m). I was actually once sitting next to 7 enemy brits with a sniper. And it was the worst weapon be have in this momentI agree with you - hiding out, running alone and making the enemy think they're engaging an entire squad when there's just you or just you and a mate or two can be great fun; I love doing it myself. here is a screenshot:

(I was so scared)
I find the Sniper kit actually very difficult to kill things with if theey are close (basically anything within the drawdistance (lawls)). This is not a bad thing btw
What I am trying to say is that people should be a a bit less Witch hunting us casual players. I greatly enjoy all the weapons related realism and I am ok with the squad players. But there is a niche for us non-communicative lonewolfers too.
