Commander Ideas

I frequently play commander because it is largely unfilled and feel its important for the team. Here are some ideas that Ive been thinking of after playing it for months. Many are probably repeats so disregard them.

1) Why does the commander have to "wait a minute" to get an officer kit if you decide to take that job? Was this by design?

2) What are your thoughts on the commander being able to apply a few more markers on the map for all to see? Im thinking similar to the target coord and close air support except with squad numbers on them to show everyone squad one is to attack here etc..

3) What about changing the DIVIDE your Squad command into JOIN another squad as a way to ask 1-2 man units to merge with other 1-2 man units.

4) What about allowing the commander ONLY to spawn at the command post?

5) What about requiring the commander to be at the CP, a bunker, or a FB in order to pull up the command window

6) How about a the ability for the commander to call in, using the old UAV button, a medichopper that drops off a litter and a medical bag on the ground and flies off. Troops can then move into its radius for healing and replenishment of field dressings only and at a slightly accelerated rate.

7) What if the the commander could choose to drop in either an AA missle station OR the AA minigun?

8 ) (holds breath) How about giving the commander the ability to launch a UAV only when at the CP and that UAV or predator basically flies one pass straight over the battlefield depending on the direction the commander is facing. The commander can see through the "eyes" of the predator and can launch one or two hellfires before it leaves the area of battle. UAV can be shot down. Also enemy units are spotted only as it passes above AND instead of small red dots showing precise locations of troops, the dots are larger to show approximate area of enemy troops to all who are looking at their Garmins.

9) What about allowing the commander the ability to place a helipad that would need to be shoveled for a little bird to spawn?

Fully agree, especially good when there are non-english speaking SLs

Wasnt this part of the vBF2 setup? i'm not sure if that can be changed

No, espcially on smaller servers, the commander may be needed to build stuff when all SLs are engaged in other dutes. Nerfing the commander's movement isn't a good idea- doesnt promote being a commander at all

Nice idea, but wouldn't you HATE it if u are using ur commander panel right next to the CP, then the slams go off...A commander only vehicle in which he can access it would be cool

why? squads should have their own medic, barring that a supply drop will replenish their dressings anyway.

build firebase, build AA missle site...I think the AA minigun woulnd't be implemented since alot of the AAA was removed

Dunno about spawn, but repair and rearm would be cool (secret helo base where the enemy fighers wont destroy you on the pad)

I really like the helipad suggestion

AA minigun was taken out for good reason, an adequate substitute would be a stationary machine gun, and AT emplacements.

Im thinking of those instances where the commander locates the CP at a secret or different location on the map. This would then allow him to respawn there in order to grab the truck that pops up there. Thats the main reason. Sometimes, I placed the CP somewhere else then move around and end up getting myself taken out. When I respawn, I kinda wish I could just respawn at the CP instead of having to respawn at main while all the other units can respawn at rally points. As the commander, I cant respawn at RPs so why not throw me a bone here and let me and only me respawn at the CP?

Another option is to give the commander a rugged laptop item instead of something in their kit and they would be required to use that laptop in the field to talk to CP (i.e. the laptop would have to be in hand to use capslock).

Im thinking of obviously a maximum of one helipad per map in use at a time.

what about adding artillery again (squadleader has to ask for it, incoming after 20 sek.). arti should be placed at mainbase stationary.

it's realistic
it's much more FUN - beeing commander is often kind of BORING

We already have mortars coming in 0.8, wont full blown artillery be overkill?

Problem with artillery is it ISN'T that realistic. Usually, batteries aren't deployed on such small battlefields as the one we've got in PR, they are several kilometers away. Even Kashan or Qinling may be too small...

But I agree with you on the main point, we need some kind of artillery back in Project Reality ... Whether it is out-map artillery or the mortars that may be coming soon. JDAM is currently far from being useful on the battlefield...

Air support on maps without jets like qwai and and other smaller maps where the othe rfaction can have the same thing. ALso maybe on bashra since you have to lase the coordinates so you cant just bomb down village unti l the chaces (?) are spotted.
