the fact that the TG server DOESNT kick people with 200 ping is the only reason i can even play PR.

servers like TCombat or Thor's obviously have an issue with people from the far east as high pings have no affect on other people's gameplay for reasons stated already. the more servers shut out players the more they are restricting the mod's growth and accessibility to a wider audience.

besides, the BF2 engine netcode is extremely adept at handling pings of even 300-400 whilst still able to make performance reasonably smooth, one thing that DICE can be commended for when compared with COD4 where 100+ equals to unplayable skipping and teleporting.

I say no just because some players experience "lag spikes". This is only temporarily and usually returns to normal after a few seconds.

Don't you think it's a tad harsh to kick anyone over 200 ping? Like others have said, people with such a ping play perfectly fine. If anything, you should target this at players with a far higher ping.

I have a ping of 20 if i get lucky, but generally sub 40, and i think ppl with a constant ping greater than 150 should be kicked....or stop downloading porn.

And you have some specific reason for that?

Because if everyone would have sub 100 pings, one could turn down lag compensation and interpolation.

Will you pay for the installation of a nice fiber optic cable to my house then?

I say no, because of lag spikes and such that can get you kicked.

Also, I have played with a ping of 220 before, and while it is very smooth, none of my hits registered so its something I won´t be doing again.

I was just about to say the same thing. Some servers where it was like 150-200 ping and it was still playing very smooth, not sure why it works like that.

Most of my good friends have 200+ Ping. Im nearing 100 myself. If 200+ Ping was kickable ping, servers would be half full at most. =/

300+ Ping kick is sometimes too much IMO... poor Nouniquenicks.. =(

Have you guys ever played with TG Dirtboy. He used to play with a ping of 300 from Korea. And ive never seen Dirt play bad. Not as a Sqd member or Sqd leader. High ping doesn't make a bad player.

ping is the time it takes for information to get to the server.. and with decent lag compensation - bf2's is ok but nothing fantastic - you should be able to have a ping of 250 and run smoothly. The reason people lag and get stuttering ingame is because of bandwidth being too low or packet loss meaning the server doesn't get all the information it needs to.

Players ping doesn't interrupt anyone else game significantly, and I think it's a bit unfair to kick people based on where they are in the world - especially since I sometimes get caught out when someone in my house sends an email and get kicked for high ping.

Hahahaha this stuff is always a blast to see.

How many of you old types remember when 300-400 ping was -great?- You'd get stuck hosting whatever game you were playing cause your ping was awesome?

Nah ping ain't the issue it used to be by any means.

Although considering it is like a year old I suppose my comment is out of place.

what about people with an occasional lag spike? lets say that im playing in nicely with me mate in a server, in a tank. I have me lag spike an shoot up to 250 ping for just a couple of seconds, then return to nomral, i get kicked form the server, my mate reeturns to base for i am rejoining. Then gets BANNED for soloing a 2 crew vehicle. cant consider that to be fair now is it? id say kick on 300+ ping max.

i don't play on servers i have 200 or more on. i have 141 ping @ chicago insurgency, and it works fine if i use hitfixer.
250 ping is kick limit.

When the very high ping player fly a transport chopper it affects others.

When he drive an APC it affects others.

When we rely on him to keep his allies alive it affects others.

I get lag spikes on the odd occasion of about 600-1000 lasting up to 20 or 30 seconds, in which I am really unable to to anything and am lucky if I'm not in the middle of say driving or flying.

However, this seems to be completely random, and only happens maybe once every 3 games on a European server.

Otherwise I only get a roughly 100-150 ping on them, and it runs smoothly. Ping doesn't give any bad effects making it unplayable for the players around you, and even when I've had 250 pings it's still largely playable. I'd say 300+ average ping should be the limit, simply because it would cause the player bad problems, and you have an ineffective player in your server. It should be average ping though, as I know almost everyone occasionally gets high ping counts which could kick them otherwise.
