Combat rifles - sight zeroing

Hello
Just wondering, anybody know if nations use different settings on their iron sights, at what range are they zeroed? In PR they are set at 300m, though in my army-days 200m was always used during the day (G3A3 Norwegian Army) and 100m during darker hours to make it easier to see the sights (100m setting is open). This being said, no G3A3 is used in combat by our forces today without red-dot sights.

The zeroing in PR currently is not actually zeroing. It is in fact the tweaking of the gravity modifier in order to reduce the bullet drop so it doesn't adversely effect your shots at the zeroing range. As a consequence, sniper rifles have a low gravity modifier and pistols have a rather large one.
Zeroing is being tackled by some of our community members along with more realistic bullet drop using drag modifiers. A large problem is that rifles in-game can only be zeroed to one or two ranges - practically. This is because each aperture setting requires a new weapon slot of which, most are taken up by other equipment. In the case of your G3A3 there is 4 aperture setting for the ranges of 100m to 400m in 100m increments if I am not mistaken. I doubt you will be able to use all of them when this is incorporated in-game.

OMG Jonny what the hell are you talking about? The ballistics part is 95% done, zeroing and 3d sights won't take much time either. So why cant we have it fo 0.8?Jonny wrote:Hi,
The zeroing, as has already been said, is currently non-existant.
Mosquill, Zangoo and myself are currently working on making it match data from a ballistics calculator, so it will be very very very realistic when we are done.
This is a long task for every rifle, so dont expect it to be done for v0.8, I am expecting we will have it done and tested for a patch in v0.8 or at the latest in v0.9.
Most of the zero ranges for iron sights will be to 200m, and for scopes will be to 300m. But it will be decided on a gun by gun basis.

Didnt you guys encounter some problems with bullets slowing down too fast after 800 meters?zangoo wrote:yea we have like 99% of the data for the guns, mosquill is just tweaking the excel calculator i see no reason why the ballistics shouldnt be completed by 0.8

But we can still use weapons past 800m (im talking about sniper/DM rifles)?zangoo wrote:we did, it was cus jonnys ballistics were 100% on untill about 600m, then they were off. so mosquill tweaked them, so they now follow a trajectory that is a little off for part of the trajectory but very very close for most of it.

right now the trajectorys are going to be very very very close to real life, the bullets will not start falling down untill a very long range, way past the max view distance. you will be able to use snipers to any range you can see the traget.Waaah_Wah wrote:But we can still use weapons past 800m (im talking about sniper/DM rifles)?

That rifle can still cause death at ranges beyond 600 meters. At that point it becomes a matter of "shot placement". If the target is without any type of protection (I.E, body armor or helmet) then a good hit in the head, neck or upper chest region can mean the demise of said target. If nothing else the target could die from loss of blood in just a few minutes.DeltaFart wrote:Yeah, jsut make sure 556 doesnt kill past 600m, its like throwing a rock at somoen then
Just because the bullet is weak beyond 600 meters doesn't mean it gonna bounce off someone's chest like a stone or pebble. At 600 meters it is still moving at around 1400 feet per second. So it is still supersonic, and packing enough punch to kill at large dog or a small deer. No matter what, it is still gonna hurt like hell if the target does not have any protection, and most likely will die.
Either way, without medical attention he is a gonna for sure, and if he is hit in a good place even with medical attention it won't matter. Sorry for being a bit long winded

A question on ranges of bigger guns.
What is the range of a tank gun or the field guns on Fool's and Mestia ?
Has anyone tried to use them at very long range with a spotter ?
