M1129, Stryker mortar carrier

Post by Teonanacatl »

After a couple minutes of searching I decided it would be okay to make this suggestion. Knowing full well its probably too late, its probably going to decrease the overall quality of my sole two suggestions. Anyway, I did searches for mortars and strykers, but never found both. I also found PR PR confirm rumors of mortars and strykers.

So when we see the US Army, lets put in a M1129 Stryker Mortar Variant. Allow me to make some points here.

-For the US Army faction, infantry operated indirect fire should replace the JDAM. I mean come on, its the ARMY. They have helos, but, come on, its the ARMY. 11C

-M1129 was designed for the urban and hilly environments that PR's maps mimic. It's perfect for the 16km maps.

- The M1129 SOP is to be ready to fire 3 minutes after receiving coordinates from commander. So it's almost REALISTICALLY nerfed. It's Perfect.

-SOP is 4 rounds per minute.

- Dumb rounds; HE, smoke will require lots of practice and a forward observer to hit anything out of sight. 16 rounds of HE will allow only one barrage before requiring reload

- Realistic crew is 2+9

-Crew chief = officer kit

-Driver = crewman

-50 cal Gunner

-2 Mortar positions = any infantry kit
One controls altitude, one reloads.

-Finally watch these videos

This one has really obnoxious music.

This one shows what is probably a M1129

1:No point. both use the JDAM
2:lets first get them into PR working
3:Lets first get the Stryker
4:#3
5:HE is for inf, sabot for armor. How is it stupid.
6:BF2 engine wont allow it.
7:Maybe but only SL gets Officer
8:already there
9:Needs to be a static to have that.

I wouldn't mind the mortar carrier system, but yeah give us the stryker first, than lets modify it. Maybe 3 positions, driver, 50 cal gunner, and mortar gunner. Maybe make the mortar be this stryker variants turret? Id like to see mortars myself, its just needed badly for close fire support now.

What the hell are you going on about? How does a SAW fit the role of a mortar?

Are you even looking at the same post I am?

WRT the OP

It's a good idea, but what about the other armies? What do they get to balance this out?

Your proposed layout would require about 5 people to fill every combat spot, that's about 1/6 of the team. Is the man power worth it?

If the rumors turn out to be true, and we do get Mortars and Strykers, what gameplay feature will putting a mortar on a stryker advance?

I'd love to see this in game, but I doubt it would be very effective. I mean, in an age when most light mortars can fire over 2 km, it doesn't make much sense to have a vehicle mounted mortar for just a 4x4km map

The man has a point

Better wait to see how mortars affect gameplay in whatever form they are currently planned in, before giving them an armored nest.

Would be great on Kashan, think of those poor buggers in the bunker complex

everything in pr is scale down , why mortars shouldn't?

i agree , mobile mortars may be a good adition , but it will take alot of resourse to do and sincerely i prefer first man portable mortars .

Good idea that I believe Eddie has stated is being looked into for future releases.

Response to Soucy's Points:
A. Strykers for PR have been shown on the internetz already and that would signal they are complete.
B. Who said anything about sabot? And while we are on the point, HEAT is actually for medium and light armor, not infantry.
C. The leader of a M1129 is considered the Squad Leader (E-5) or Section Leader (E-6), similar if not higher in rank to an infantry Squad Leader which receives the Officer Kit. For vehicle crew I'd recommend:
1x Driver
1x Crew Chief, doubling as .50 Gunner
2x Mortar Operators
2x Passenger Seats (Gameplay purposes/security)

i think just putting the regualr squad based mortars in there would be great, make it easy to aim but have the shells only land with an average accuracy of maybe 10 feet from the intended target. each squad can have one man cary mortars and he has to place the weapon. for example like the 50cal. MGs from forgotten hope 1942, then enter it

He means dumb rounds as in 'not smart rounds,' its not a comment on the different types of rounds
