Well.. the point of them is to be easily identifyable at long ranges, so a simple geometric shape is best. I'm leaning towards a circle actually.

I'd say maybe a diamond or something more interesting, I mean it has to be like the chevron and a circle just doesn't cut it :D

Fact is that the numerals we use here in the west are called "Arabic numerals" because the Arabs where the first one that started using them. ;)

^ yeah well it still looks wrong, great now i feel really ignorent!

i still rekon it would look better with arabic writing on the side.

But what would it say? I can understand designations and so on, but at the most a personalised name for the tank (just that atm no side has that sort of personality).

Unfortunatelly, the textures are shared between each one of them.

So if you want to call a tank "Bertie", you can end up with 4+ Berties on a single map ;)

that would cause that the consumption of texture space would grow with the sice of each texture which isn't worth it, the space can be used for better things.
the only good way would be possible at own moddels, when you place a small part of the texture where the name should be written on a differtent texture sheet and only exchange this one, but that is not possible with already uv-mapped moddels without violating EA's EULA
