[Help!] Crashing ¬¬

Post by Psyko »

Okay i have checked the threads for the editor crashing and it seems that its not without it's flaws, which is a pity. But i can live with that.

My Editor crashes. Its fine for editing BF2 stuff and saving them, but when it comes to Project reality maps and stuff, it gives me error messages and tells me it cant locate the init.con files.

I know its tempermental, but i'm posting in the hopes that sombody has encountered this problem, and fixed it, and would be kind enough to explain it to me in sequence.

Also, i noticed that the BF2 maps have archive.md5 files in with the .rar files in the levels folder, why doesn't PR have these, and what do they do?

cheers

Yea i am about 2/3 the way through the tutorials now. Just haveing a hard time understanding how to get around these little rules that the editor has. i remember somone in the clan telling me that its case sencitive, but ill make sure anyways. (i just copied 0.75 to PR_EDIT but the files wont work. and thats what i'm trying to fix right now.) :/

If you want to open a map in the editor you need to extract it first. Go to your pr/levels/whatever map you want and extract client.zip and server.zip. Then you can go open it with the editor.

okay i'll give that a try. i have spent all day today and yesterday practicing and i have come accross a couple of confusing points and you might be able to answer for me.

(1) How do you allign trees vertically on hill slopes?
(2) Is grass and long grass only in PR? i seem to only find water lillies and stuff.
(3) What are the minimum requirements for a map to load on it's respective mod?
(4) Are there any links to where i can find notes on keeping teams fair and any techniques on stratigic positions?
(5) has anyone skinned up the objects in BF2 that were "still in production"?

actually that's a good question.

for your editor issues, check this site: Official BF Editor Forums (Powered by Invision Power Board)
and do a search there, i think you should find answers to all your questions.

I'f i could only fix this problem. its telling me i cant open files because it cant find the init.con files.

Now...i DID extract the Objects_Server.rar and Objects_Client.rar files. I extracted them from
C:\Program files\EA Games\battlefield2\Mods\BF2\Levels
to...
C:\Program files\EA Games\battlefield2\Mods\PR\levels
And overwrote those files, i did both varients of server then client, (then uninstalled) and did client then server (just to make sure.)
I think it reads the objects, but it doesnt open the levels inside the editor. and for that matter, it crashes without warning when i try to start my own, but when i reload the program and open the MyLevel that crashed the program it loads up just fine! See what i'm saying? it wont open anything or make any new versions. (except for the level i had tryed to start when it CTD)
When i open PR OR PR_EDIT and try to load a map it tells me...
Mods\Pr\levels\albasra\init.con not found!

help! :(

OMG you need to extract the server.zip and client.zip in pr/levels/albasrah.
Right click on client.zip and server.zip and "extract here" then you can load the map in the editor because init.con is inside that server.zip and the editor won't read it if it's packed.
