We know, that ya all want to reach your own and desired position from which you can win a match alone and without any help of your team, at least that's what you dream at night, but reality is different.
That might be the reason why the pilot of the armed scout-chopper might not be very pleased if you demand him, "Bring me to the east outpost." and your mate on the 3rd position asks, "Let me out at enemy main base.".
The ones I hate the most are the dumbasses that say, "Bring me to the front!!!!". Why the hell don't they use one of the APC's, their squadleader or whatever to get to the action? Those are the moments when I think, "A headshot mustn't be the worst thing I can do to them.".
Here are some demands I have for the average player in interaction with armed scout-choppers:
#1: An attack-chopper is no taxi-business, even if it has two empty seats. If you are a sniper and want to get to a position where there is no posibility to get into enemy fire, I'll give you the favor. Same goes for squadleaders.
#2: When you manage to get into the chopper be thankful if the pilot gives you the room to jump out somewhere in the pampas. Perhaps I'll have to let you know, that especially those small helis can't hover longer than absolutely necessary, because even a short burst of an apc-canon or another chopper can lead to an instant death.
If I always did what I wanted to, those shitty passengers would have died when I got shot down (which could take a long time, when I'm able do fly efficiently).
#3: In most cases you have less strategic value strategic value than the chopper has, when it's attacking properly.
And ... I noticed a phenomenon: Around 20 seconds after the scout-chopper spawned there always spawns a bunch of three to five teammates who run to it in the hopes to get the pilot seat.
And that leads to the fourth advice:
#4: Those helis are great and you can be sure that there is somewhere someone that looks at the time and knows when the chopper spawns.
- Don't believe that you get it, when you see it on the map after you died.
- Don't believe that the pilot feels responsible for your transport and your fun after you ran like the lemmings.
- And don't believe you are a better pilot than that guy who waited for the chopper. Mostly that's not the case.
And here is the last point:
#5: Shoot at my chopper and you are a dead man.
yes. i agree. i hate when people shoot at their own helis then expect a pilot to give them THE best spot ever wile being shot at.... oh yea, tip #??= when you get in with your whole squad, it makes it so much easyer if u have the commander show the pilot where you want to go!
Best thing to do when people are demanding transport from a scout chopper, is to pick them up and then continue on your scouting duties. If you're lucky, you'll get to see them plummet to their death as they jump out of your chopper.
Yeah, there was nothing better in 0.5 Basrah than seeing a Blackhawk pulling out of the area due RPGs and a Marksman bails out and splatters on a rooftop
It still makes my day, when people think, they got parachutes and jump out of a chopper in mid-flight.
whatever it is, its not inhibiting his thinking, its easy to tell whos comin at you from the minimap, if hes not on it, blow him away, if he is, and has c4, he clearly is not thinking straight.
>< either that or hes gonna tk you. so yea, shoot warning shots
-80% of the time a transport pilot WILL come back for you. no need to rush, most maps have a timer of at least 2-4 hours. it only takes about 50 seconds for a good chopper pilot to insert a squad into an area, shooting your H-AT or 1337 special forces rifle does not speed up the process.
-most pilots are fine with ride-alongs even if they're not doing anything for their team, but for the love of god tell the pilot you won't be getting off. most pilots do care about their passengers and want everyone to get to their desired location.
It is the pilots job tog get you there, and eep the chopper and you as a passanger alive. But it is done on the PILOTS TERMS! He is the one with best overview of how the helicopter will behvae, and how much it can take.
So, where I want to go with this is basicaly: Don't be an arse and shout at the pilot if he is not picking you up instantly, or 5 minutes later, or 5 minutes again. Chopper could be full, LZ hot, etc.
You may not know of various problems becasue you're not flying a big noisy beast that attracts everyones attention, and it's pretty hard as a pilot to type out a 5 page explanation to why he can't land where you want.
Don't tell him he is a bad pilot unless he onbviously is, ie. crashing it very quickly.
This happend ot me a few minutes ago while flying the Merlin on Basrah:
I got the chopper, there was already a pilot in it, but someone teamkilled him (wtf?) so I took it becasue I had made a Merlin squad.
So I took off, with 3 gunner/engineers and cruised around the battlefield looking for ammo dumps.
Soon people were calling transport requests and I picked them up.
One squad wanted to go to the island east of the main city. I told my squad mate over VoIP to tell them to get ready for water jump, the LZ was hot on the island, so I had to do a water drop.
It went well, untill the squad leader wanted back in, I have no idea why, so I tried to hover for about 5 minutes with the ramp down, so he could get in. Finaly he got in
but there wasn't enough space for him actualy sitting in the helicopter because some other blue guy nicked the last slot. So he decided to just stand inside.
Ofcourse he got killed when I took off and ofcourse he punished me.
Then he spawned at Airport and wanted another ride, so I picked him and his squad up.
This time he wanted to go to F-6, inside the city.
So I took him there and just when I was about to give the go order we got hit by an RPG, and the technicals opened up!
My engineer, a guy from iGi (can't remember name sorry) just managed to save the beast and we barely ade it outta there.
Then they blue guys in the helicopter started shouting at me for being the worst pilot ever and that I was just waisting the helicopter and I should go back to playing vanilla. Lots of great stuff.
I got so tired of them and the round was almost over, so I just landed where they wanted, just to prove to them that I was right. The helicopter got badly damaged and I lost control and hit the mosque with it.
Morale is: LET THE PILOT DO IT HIS WAY, OR YOU'LL MOST LIKELY GET KILLED!
And for the love of god dont fire the miniguns on a BH at nowt, then when we do reach the enemy NO AMMO, the number of times ive considered jumping out and leaving the *&^%er to fall to his death, i then recover myself and start acting more mature again.
But i really will the next time someone does it because even though he was bored he wouldnt get out at the LZ, OMFG.
I think a lot of people don't realize that when you warm up the miniguns on the blackhawk it sounds to everyone else that you are shooting. SO please! Don't warm up the guns! They start firing within 1 second anyway.
Yea, I also hate people who don't care how hot the LZ is as long as their squad can get out in time, as if the chopper pilot didn't then have to make it out of there without getting shot down.
When exiting from a transport chopper at LZ, I always shout out a "thanx", then call out "go go go" (to the pilot) when I'm sure all the passengers are at a safe distance, some of whom usually hit the deck. Pilots might have their minimap fully zoomed in at this point but won't always know that everyone is actually clear.
[R-Div]Robbi "There's nothing more skanky than eating out of a tub of hummus with a screwdriver."
[R-DEV]Matrox "CHINAAAAAAA!!!"
There are a few things you can do to get ppl to stop shooting the miniguns: If ur not already in hostile area, just yell Negative via com rose and hover or turn around. Then after they stopped continue going for the LZ, if they start again, rinse, repeat. Some ppl actually get it and type "stop shooting the minigun" in my place.
A more radical solution for all the hardcore kiddies out there is flying to the maps border and hanging ur rear into the deserter zone while being careful of not deserting urself. U dont have to actually let them die, but its a good lesson nontheless.
