locking camera on ground

Post by ralfidude »

Just a reallllllly quick questiong for the devs. Its most likely hardcoded... BUT, is it possible as copilot in attack helos to lock on to a ground spot you are looking at so the cursor stays in that position even if the chopper keeps moving? This could be done by right clicking once to lock on to the ground target, and then right click again to unlock. Not talking about moving vehicles, i dont think thats possible with the current engine.

Also, looking at Videos of apaches firing their guns, the splash you see once the bullets hit the ground look alot bigger than we have now, doesnt mean the damage should be bigger, but it just always looks that way, and the guns are also quite innacurate too, they hit the general area of where the cursor is pointing at. (Just a quick observation made)

You mean stabilization like on the tanks turret? Well then yes it is possible but it wont work completely because of a engine bug...

not exactly stabilization.... that would screw everything up. But if u point to a tank lets say, right click, and the cursor will stay locked to that ground position until the chopper moves out of the cameras angle.
If you youtube apahces firing, you will see they lock on to the ground like that to observe, or they lock on to moving vehicles and fire with missile cams. In anycase a stablization like we have on tanks on the chopper is not a greatest idea. Wait, isnt there a slight stabilization already on the gunner???

no it is not possible with the bf2 engine, very limited stabilization is possible but it is not really enough for a chopper.

Something is better than nothing.....

I am working on improving the gun effect. Would be nice to have the gun do alot of damage but have more deviation. Maybe I will look into it, although I am not sure in exactly what file this information is or where I can find it?

How would stabilization screw things up? I see only improvements to that.

well it screwed up the AA vehicles.... I think i was thinking of something else, so ignore that comment. But i do believe if it was possible to do so it would be simply amazing, realistic and incredibly awesome. In anycase, thanx for the responses. Devs dont answer back lately, maybe they just ignore all my posts now, lol, too bad, the flares in planes post i made is getting 100% aproval from everybody so far, hope the devs see it.

stabilization screws with the aav because its a 1 manned vehicle and you cant see where you are going when looking in the air.

But i belief stabilization will work very good with the attack chopper
