[Request] Help needed with Realistic Aircraft HUD's

Post by Hoodi3 »

I have already made aircraft hud's in Photoshop layered perfectly.

As long as I can integrate it with the BF2 engine (Wouldn't take long).

Then we will have realistic HUD's. And that, my friend, is what looks best.

I need a tool to use, and a method of using it, this is where I am asking for help.

Which aircraft? I would love to see this too. I have experience with the Alpha channels used to make the HUD's too.

F-15 (Pretty much universal between American aircraft).

I'll make an SU-25T HUD for the SU-25, since the SU-25T has a HUD, here's a screenshot from one of my SIMS.

I suppose the question really is, would they be functional or 'for display purposes only'? Obviously BF2 HUDs are far from realistically functional, but they do tell roughly tell you altitude, speed and direction along with the weapons systems. Id rather that than a pretty HUD that is completely useless.

An in-game screenie would be nice if you manage to implement this.

If you go to "Menu_client.zip\HUD\Texture\Ingame\Vehicles\Icons\Hud\Air\Attack" you can get an idea how they're made. Basically the hud is cut into numerous images and compiled of those on the screen. You'd have to replace those images and it'll show up ingame.
Also you'd have to tweak all of those images positions from some text file. Don't know exactly what file, but my guess would be these "menu_server.zip\HUD\HudSetup\Vehicles". Which would probably take it's time.

And the images are made in the alpha channel, so the RGB channels are completely white.

I'm not 100% sure that this is correct, but it's my guess after looking around in the zip files.

Its good, and duke, it isn't useless, it is a touch up. This mod IS about realisim right? at least we can get these realistic huds in if some one is willing to do them.

go for it mate, but try and make some attack chopper huds later too. good luck

I never said it was useless. I just said that if it doesnt work (and is just an image overlay) then its pointless, If it works it'd be great to add some more realism to the aerial aspects of PR.

To be honest tho it looks like this guys has cut and run a while ago.

Well why wouldn't it work and then be even CONSIDERED to be put in game? Why would he make one that wouldn't work? Its out of the question my friend.

So what if its cut and run? He can do it, no one is stoping him, and if devs like it, its in the mod.

aggressive post is aggressive. :p

My point was that he's cut and run meaning he's been gone a while now = no realistic huds = necro thread = pointless thread. Pull back on the attitude chum.

Oh, I didn't run. I just got frustrated then forgot about it.

I'll give it another go, if its of any consolidation.

(Hope bumping this far-beyond-dead topic is a-okay.)

Basically, Scot's correct. It's been on my mind. I've had a few idea's of how it could work. (From perspective, and it wouldn't be perfect, but perfection is a hard goal to accomplish.)

Anyway, after seeing all of these (albeit "cowardly") remarks, I've re-sparked my interest.

I just posted a question earlier today before seeing this thread,

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f135-r ... post925632

Great real life video detailing su-25 hud.
Anyhow what's the worst thing that can happen? That nothing gets done - well no
big deal, btw just ignore Duke's motivational comments he likes to throw his "flares" around
(Probably wants a new HUD for A-10 or F-16 just does not want to say it....)

glad to see you're back working on it.

I would like to see some air-craft specific huds, you know?

=( Sick of seeing the same hud, but with different languages.

o.O And do helicopters actually have a hud? I didn't think they did....

anychance we could get that replaced?

just one question, in the mod all gauges don't work, just the hud...right? if all this gauges work, or at least the hud follows the head!!! it was great, but we don't know where we are, if we turn the head searching for targets. :)
If this question is out of main subject, please ignore it,
but i'm fan of flight simulation, and my favorite one is the Falcon 4.0 Allied Force, it's the most realistic one in this matter.
