New game mode: Recover the vehicle
Hi guys, I did a search and couldn't find any suggestions for my idea.
It's as follows.
The scenario is that the enemy has captured a tank with some top secret technology in it. The mission is to get into the enemys base and recapture the tank and get it safely back to the friendly uncappable base.
The tank can only be destroyed once it is out of the enemy base and on it's way "home".
At the same time the enemy could be doing the same, trying to recover their tank from your base.
It would even possibly work on a 64 man server, as the teams, to succeed, need to split up into three sections. One section to go grab the tank, one to defend to stop the enemy tank being grabbed. And a section to be roaming ready to try and destroy a tank that has been recovered and is on it's way to the friendly base.
There would have to be strict rules in place, such as no mining exits out of the base. And the tank would have to be on a quick respawn for failed escape attempts and the odd idiot who wants to destroy the tank before anybody has go into it.
I would suggest no vehicles except hummers, vodniks etc for troop transport.
Opinions?

Re: New game mode: Recover the vehicle
Small tweak suggestion for the game mode, The Tank is close to the enemy main base, with a temporary spawn point for the enemy. The team that is defending the tank may not drive it and the tank is disabled. The tank is considered a flag for the purposes of Rally limitations, the tank must be repeaired. All attacks on the tank disable, but do not destroy the tank.

i like this concept. I would like to hear about any faults or interesting developments with regards to gameplay.
WHat happens if sombody just destroys the tank in an attempt to sabotage the match?

Or Insurgency style:
I'll use Basrah for an example.
Empty tank that has steering and turret disabled spawns somewhere in the city. This is also a spawnpoint for a limited amount of GB infantry (4-6?). GB infantry can also spawn at VCP where there are 2 Land Rovers.
Rest of GB team must spawn at Airfield and fight there way there, repair the vehicle via the repair land rovers (Must protect these, they start with 3, each with a 5 min respawn) amd drive it back to airfield and into the cargo plane.
INS do not know the immediate location of the tank, other than that it is in the city. INS receive standard load of vehicles, etc. and spawn points throughout city and a few along the river for reconnaisance purposes.

Re: New game mode: Recover the vehicle
it's basicly extraction m8, a bit different but basicly it is. i believe that it was left out of the last 2 builds because of a bug or a glitch with the game mode. i'm not entirely sure why and i guess a dev would know best.

Re: New game mode: Recover the vehicle
Now that is really cool. But maybe another object, does not have to be a tank. something that would seem more important and would call for 4 platoons to be sent after it. maybe a truck full of hostages? dont knowViper5 wrote:Or Insurgency style:

Re: New game mode: Recover the vehicle
what a great idea.
The Capture the Flag (or Tank) mode should be very nice.(As the Tread starter explained it)
CTF was the best game style in the game desert combat. Would be nice to see this game mode back!

Excellent idea,
I was sort of thinking something along this lines myself. Should I post my idea in this thread or make a new one?

Re: New game mode: Recover the vehicle
I used to like extraction for a change, the only problem was that it was always over too fast.
The only problem as I pointed out at the start was some noob will destroy the tank before the opposition has even got to it.
That is why it needs to be on a very quick respawn, bf2 vanilla style, but with only the one tank per side in the enemys camp.
The enemy will very quickly learn that by using their anti tankrounds before it is even captured will be a sure way to lose the match, as it takes longer to re-ammo than for a replacement tank to spawn in.
Not only that but probably the best technique to win would be to not have the anti tank weapons in the base, but out of the base trying to halt the enemy before it makes it home. I Don't think having the tank in need of repairs before it can be driven is a good idea. It is going to be hard enough just fighting your way to the tank. The long repair times that this current version of pr has (which I agree with btw), would make it impossible to even get the tank away.

Re: New game mode: Recover the vehicle
it is possible to make as objektive not a tank. What about take the flag away and bring it to the main?
Like the real CTF mode
Nothing to destroy then. No changes @ spawntimes needed and so on.
Not very realistic, but great fun, i think.

Re: New game mode: Recover the vehicle
I suggested a tank, because it is hard to destroy and fairly slow moving, and is easier to spot than a single guy with the flag.
If a flag was used then a snatch squad could just rush in, in a humvee, grab it and drive back quickly. Because a humvee moves so fast (in proportion to a tank) the game is over too quickly.
I played extraction plenty of times and it was always over in five minutes flat.
I am thinking a good map example would be kashan desert. This is an example scenario:
The team have to get over to the enemy base, set rallys outside for a sustained attack to get to the tank and take it.
Other squads have to be in the mountains and near bunkers for a quick assault on the enemy tank after it has escaped, and defensive teams need to be back at the yank base to stop the mec team from taking their tank from escaping the base.
Another squad needs to be ready to escort and defend their own tank back to base.
Intel is needed to advise on the postition of the enemy tank, so the friendly tank can either decide to try and stop it from making it back, or avoid it and make for home.
Also, once in a tank, it can defend itself to some extent, unlike extraction, where the vehicle was too easy to destroy, or as was often the case, too dam fast to get near.
I think any big map would be good for the game, fools road, kashan or the new insurgancy map (can't remember the name)etc. Big maps ensure that everybody see's action, and also ensures that the game is not over in five minutes flat.

Re: New game mode: Recover the vehicle
the game isnt over bye one capture. in normal CTF mode. You get the flag and so a point. After a limited maptime the team wins with more captures.
But the scenario from lexus sounds very nice to...

Re: New game mode: Recover the vehicle
Hmm, what about instead :
Recover the telecommunications equipment from a disabled vehicle.
This would include a non-destroyable static on the map of a vehicle and the electronics equipment would be like the pilots kit that we have used in previous game modes. Troops must reach the target, one person must exchange their kit for the telecommunications kit to represent them carrying it, then must return back? This would represent the need to keep sensitive equipment out of the hands of foreign nations or terrorists.
Would allow forces on that map to not only be conventional vs insurgent but conventional vs conventional!

Re: New game mode: Recover the vehicle
But again we are back to the same scenario of just jumping into a jeep and getting out of there quickly. The game is over far too quickly, and that is why I feel we need a tank to recover.
It is not out of the question for this sort of thing to happen in real life, just look at it as the film, the hunt for red october, or firefox down. Not quite the same, I admit, and perhaps not quite realistic, but fairly close.
Personally, I like a game to last a while, and my plan, I think, is the best way to make it last a while.
Any pr developers want to give their feedback on this. Rhino, are you listening?

Re: New game mode: Recover the vehicle
The game wont be over that fast if we make the right setups, like no jeeps at all(of course only if it is possible on the map in question), or maybe 1 or 2 with a 10-15 min respawn (this goes for the recover the telecommunications equipment idea), or place the static with the kit inside it to a place which is absolutely not/hardly approachable wiht jeeps(for example the mosque on Al Basrah, the dam's helipad on Jabal Al Burj, a helo wreck on one of the rooftops on EJOD desert, inside Riverfort on 7 Gates, etc).'Lexus@[gp wrote:;679993']But again we are back to the same scenario of just jumping into a jeep and getting out of there quickly. Best option would be if we could tweak the map itself, so there would be such places, but I know that the devs wont make a 100MB or bigger map file with just a little change in it compared to the original one.
Anyways I like the idea itself very much (both the tank and the kit recover ones), it would be really refreshing to have a new gamemode like this!
