The extent of the "MEC"

Post by Fonveh »

Not quite sure where to put this, but there's something I've been wondering. Does PR have any official established story on the extent of MEC? I'd imagine MEC was just a more politically correct way of saying "Pan Arab Coalition" by EA, but is it literally just a "Middle Eastern Coalition"? Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco would not be part of it in other words?

I'm wondering because I've started to make a "MEC vs GB" map set in Gibraltar. Don't want all this work go to waste.

Thanks for any answers.

No.

Go ahead, that's fine. No story to worry about.

Back in my R-PUB days Fignewton and I had a Storyline waiting to be published, got Eggman's approval, but never really happened. Ultimately it was a huge coalition of just about every Mid-East country and MEC was going to be changed to be known as the Valeyat-Faqih.

Well, since one of the MEC-maps is set in Libya (Al Kufrah Oilfields) I think that a Gibraltar-map should work just fine.

Which means? Just curious.

Dont entirely remember :P Fig did a bunch of research into it. I'm sure if you ask Bosco or someone still on the PUB and Testing staffs that they can prolly find it laying around in archives or something.

Because not all insurgents are Shi'ites? Screw that, most insurgents aren't Shi'ite.

That's like calling the US Army the 'Republicans' or the GB faction the 'Scots'.

Anyway, the MEC is just a representative of 'those "A-rabs" overseas' - nothing really specific.

Could start it with: "When MEC had convinced the Africans to support their fight against the Western countries, MEC tried to invade Spain, but.. Blah"

Doesn't need to be that elaborate. The MEC want control of the Med to limit the operation of UK and US Navies. Understandable given MEC territory presumably having some Med Coastline. Gib is the key to the Med so its a natural place to try to seize to achieve this.

Ignoring, of course, the U.S. Sixth Fleet, and the navies of Italy, Spain, Greece, and Turkey that also operate in this region. The Middle Eastern states all have very limited naval capabilities, particularly when compared to the massive combined naval forces of NATO, so attempting a logistically and militarily impossible amphibious invasion of southern Europe in order to close off the Med seems like a tremendous waste of resources to me.

Outside of that, one would wonder if the Saudis are in the MEC as well.

This is what I imagined the Middle Eastern Coalition would look like.

Basically the Arab world, and possibly Iran. (ignore the striped areas)

The attack on Gibraltar would not be an amphibious invasion since Gibraltar has few (if any) places suitable for setting off a large number of troops. Plan is for it be a surprise attack by paratroopers.
