Well I've talked with a Black Hawk pilot recently when he flew in to our school for field day. I asked him how much damage to the chopper would occur if it hit the ground at a higher than normal landing speed.
He told me:
So as you can see, the games whole "You explode if you come in too fast" is very inaccurate... I request that the PR staff please fix it to where a landings that are a little too fast dont "blow up" and kill everyone inside.Black Hawk pilot wrote: Well, usually it depends, but it would be almost impossible for the helicopter to just blow up. The birds are made to asorb quite a bit of shock, it would usually sustain that kinda landing with minimal to no damage. The pilots might get thrashed around, but it wouldnt be bad. The landing gear usually slides on the ground, if I'm coming down in a straight angle they might break off...but thats at its worst.
