Lets get rid of the airplanes
Hi all.
I had thought that this mod's intention was to increase the infantry tactics to make it the main focus of the game (armor and apcs are a part of infantry tactics, as well as helicopters for both attack and transport.) It seems to me that the airplanes have little or no real role to play in an infantry based mod. I was curious as to why the planes were left in the mod.
I've never been a huge fan of the planes, all the way back to BF1942 as they take away from the infantry aspect of the game.
Thanks.

No idea lol.
Whatever we do to them, they have to limited and rely on working together in some format.
The teamwork part of it really depends on who's in the server. Playing in my squad we used to stack up in jets and bomb stuff nominated by the ground crew, with the fighter protecting the bomber

I don't "hate" vehicles - just airplanes. I guess i could live with them if we had a MANPAD class - otherwise we'd have to waste a guy to fly CAP, taking away from the infantry focus (again, which i thought this mod was supposed to cater to...) I mean, tanks are formidable, sure, but we have an AT class to counter them...

Hehe - great reply. I guess i could ask all the pilots to play sims such as Allied Force instead...
Here's a link to a forum if you're interested in getting into simming:

or here:

Both are very helpful. I'm BirdShot there as well.

You ever heard of air cover. Since there is no artillery there is air support, Air support in real life is vital to troops who need that extra beafy missile to take out various targets in there way such as enemy choppers or tanks and because the enemy is thinking the same way they also need to ake out the enemy's air support.BirdShot wrote:Hi all.

Absolutely. But, again, I thought the spirit of this mod was more focused on the infantry/ground aspect of the game...Pence wrote:You ever heard of air cover. Choppers are very easy targets for heavy mgs, hence there is really no need for CAP by airplanes.
Why not just have OCA strikes with durandels and crater your opponent's airfield too? Then go after the PPL... no gas no planes, right? Where would it end.
I digress.
My question was intended for the developers of the mod - just to hear why they chose to leave the airplanes in the game.

First: is this an infantry focused mod...? Hm, I have obviously not done my homework.
I vote for keep the airplanes in some form. They bring massive amounts of destruction to the game and makes my infantry life an absolute nightmare from time to time... and those nightmares are one reason to play the game!
I'm very much for realism and I'm even willing to sacrifice some of the game balance for it (but this is just my personal preference). Asymetric strengh relationships are part of real war. As a "regular" infantryman the airplane is superior to me and my group and it is a lethal threat to us. The airplane OTOH really don't have to worry us (unless we have some AA kits at hand...) which is also realistic (as much as my limited knowledge about the real world is worth).
Hm. You are called Birdshot? With such a name I don't think neither you or your squad should fear airplanes but rather the other way around. Unless it is choppers you refer to as your favourite prey
.
(Still haven't downloaded PR... still don't really know what I talk about... just overly enthustiastic by reading stuff here. The attitude among ppl here on this forum is nice IMHO which also contributes to make me even more intrested in the mod!)

Ahhh, this reminds of a post I once read on a forum full of CF members, it was about how the Armoured Corps, the Artillery Corps, the Air Corps, all of it ONLY exists to support the Infantry ... and I thought to myself: It's true.BirdShot wrote:Hi all.

The aim of the MOD is reality. For reality we have to mix all areas of combat into the MOD. Even so a large number of the maps are infantry combat only. it wouldn't be the same without geting flowen into battle by a black hawk or haveing a tank thats got your squad pined down taken out by a jet. Or the good old dog fights between planes. Thats my thought anyway. But we see the need for some infantry to plane communication that is lacking so you may see this worked on in the future.

The focus of this mod has never been one of infantry only.
What Project Reality is trying to do is to bring the level of realism of vanilla BF2 up to acceptable standards. Acceptable to who, you may ask?
The devs first and foremost. It is after all they who set the rules for the mod and spend countless hours making those marvellous flying models for us, the community, to fly. Would be a shame to let all that work go to waste...
Among the devs there are quite a few guys who really, REALLY know their stuff when it comes to military hardware and they will make sure that PR will get as real as possible without breaking the number one rule of gaming.
So, in the end, all I want to say is keep the planes in. (which I am quite sure they will do!
