[Static Models] Airfield Statics [WIP]

Post by Pride »

With my limited modelling experience, i decided to try to make a few more things that were a bit more complex than boxes (but only a bit :p )

This is what i have so far:

2x and 6x runway landing lights. Arranged here in a possible confliguration. The lod0 (the most detailed)mesh for the 6x is 1556 tris, and lod0 for the 2x is 404 tris. I've done the lods, but not the cols yet for these.

This is a tall blast deflector, its 3m high. They are 2m wide each (there are 6 of them side by side in the renders). lod0 is 300 tris. I've completed all lods and cols for this one.

I aim to also make:
-A small blast deflector, about 1.5m high

-A vertical blast deflector panel, to place at the sides, or behind to extend the height

-Runway lights. Small, single lights to line the runway.

-A Radar

-Some new spotlights.

and maybe some other stuff like bomb loaders and transporters.

I'll update this post with more renders as i progress through more modelling , and eventually texturing and import.

nice ambiance statics! in the original POE for BFV they had landing lights that strobed, just added a little something that was nice. Hope these work out!

So texturing wasnt enough for ya? :P

Adding some blinking light effects to those landing lights and figuring out a good way to make them blink in succession of eachother will really add a lot to a map with these statics on.

They look great - Ive used floodlights sunk in the ground on my map, but it looks **** so these would be very handy. I would drop the poly count a bit though, as they areunlikely to be seen close up very often.

Some kind of bomb loaders are an excellent idea as well, as the ordinance statics are already available. atm the only airfield statics available are the steps :/

Quick update, i have remodelled the lights, so they now have only half the polys they had before, although they don't look as nice :(

Anyway, i have finished lod and col work on the 2x lights and have done the applied the colour texture. I'm making my own texture pallets to use on all the airfield statics i'm gonna make.

Image

What do you guys think about the colour (for the frame)? Should i keep it a dull, more military grey, or go for the more common yellow?

You could make different textures for different maps, i'm sure the lights in basrah would look different from the ones in Qinling, and those again would look different from Kashan. I'm talking not only about the material, but also sand, dirt etc.

Unless thats too much work, i just thought it would look quite good this way.

Nice job :) Will your radar be a large control tower type rather then the smaller portable type we have now

Love them. :)

Now we need the VASI lights. :p

I made a light a while ago, but I wasn't sure how to get to on a map.

Now will someone please make me a 737, or better yet an A380 I can fly round qinling in? :D

as a fellow typhoon pilot i salute this work. What would be nice would be a bomb cart with a paveway waiting to be loaded onto a typhoon :)
