F/A-18, will it be used again?

Post by [=TC=]nuetron »

Hello, I was just asking the team If they are goin gto use the F/A-18 Hornet again.
And what the community thinks about the F/A-18, weather uit should come back or stay gone.

Personally, I think that the F/A-18 was awesome back in 0.5, and I think that it would be good to be in future versions. It is the backbone of carriers' and is a major attack aircraft in real life, why not Project Reality?

Either that, or the F/A-18 Super Hornet might be an awesome addition for Project Reality, even better at incorperating team work and it is in POE2. If they allow for it to be used, then it would need a slight weapons change(from laser guided bombs to PR laser guided bombs) then it would be ready for PR.

The F-18 A/B/C Hornet versions are AFAIK used by the USMC, The F-18 E/F Super Hornet versions are used by the US Navy.

Kashan Desert, the only US air map is a US ARMY map, so it wont have the Hornet anytime soon.

The Navy uses them, and there are 4 Carrier maps.

Muttrah City v2 comming out soon.
Gulf of Oman which has no jets.
Zatar Wetlands which could use a jet or 2 since the A-10s and SU-25 were taken out.
and Jabal Al-Burj which is another map that would be nicer to have a jet in, yes it is small, but I am just making a poin that the F/A-18 coul be used since the Carrier is on 4 maps.

But anyways, there are 3 perfectly good maps for the F-18(Hornet or Super Hornet) to be on.

the F-18 is too fast for a 1024x2 map or below, needs to be a 1024x4 (kashan size) min map to really have it on which we dont have any carrier based 1024x4 maps for the USMC.

is kashan going to change to an army map? because right now it is marines, and being that its marines on that map f18s would work great

If PR ever gets a real carrier and a large enough map I have a F/A-18E Super Hornet well under way in modeling (wanted to use it for import and coding practice)...

Not sure how big Operation Barracuda is, but that would probably be the closest map that could most likely be altered down the road.

Would be nice to have an aircraft carrier like the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan instead of the U.S.S. Essex assault ship. Not to mention what it would take to work on the F/A-18 to possibly have a functioning arrestor hook for deck landings and arrestor cables. But that's just my imagination.

I'll settle for a Harrier though. :-D

The Canadians will be using the F/A-18. Or whatever the hell their variant is.

Anyway, when the US armed forces are split up (Army/USAF and USMC/Navy) the F18 will probably return.

Theres a reason its one of the few maps that still features the BH for the "Marines" rather than the Huey. Kashan is ear marked for the Army
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Have you ever seen the Reagon? Look it up, and see if you'd laugh if one of those was in attack distance to your coast

Meh, prolly not so funny when you are staring at a Carrier Battle Group and 4 squadrons of F18s

But yeah, I'd presume the F18 would eventually see light as the USMC faction's fighter or fighter bomber and the CF's fighter or fighter bomber.

Yeah the island is much bigger and it had the potential to be an epic map. To bad it wasnt continued. :(
