[Static Model] HMS Ocean [WIP]

Post by Smegburt_funkledink »

Hi all, This is one of my first attempts at modeling.

I finally managed to create some sort of guide using some fairly crappy ref pix but It's not very accurate. I made the 1st image in illustrator and exported the paths to start on the 3d model...

Image

I couldn't find any schematics, so this had to do for now. If anyone has any better refs please let me know.

I'll be reading through some more tuts on here today.
Also, the blocks on the flight deck are just representations as I only started the 3D process yesterday.

Considering that this is your first real attempt at modeling, you are an AMBITIOUS man. :)

Awesome choice though. It will probably give you many headaches, good luck.

All refs I have show 3 CIWS's. I'm not going to make any decisions like that yet, I don't have much military knowledge.

@Rudd, you need to buy me a drink first...

I enjoy a challenge and yes, it'll probably annoy me eventually. Thanks for the luck, i need it. :-)

Again, if anyone has decent ref pix or some schematics preferably :-D , It'll help greatly.

Cheers spacemanc, that'll help a lot. Some great high res and some interior shots.

Muchly appreciated.

Excellent work mate, can't wait to see the finished product.

Now all we need is some one to model the new QE class carrier - Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carrier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And the Bays class assault ships - RFA Largs Bay (L3006) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sorry I hate quoting the wiki but it was just too easy.

For all of you wanting a new carrier, tough luck, Ocean is a Heli assault ship!!

If youre planning to make the landing craft as well, it maybe be best to do these first, as theyre much smaller and easier, and most of all PR really needs more boats - the ribs are **** AND unrealistic! - if you did a good job on them and the DEVs liked them they could possibly get in the game quite quick as they could possibly be used with the existing carriers.

Thanx for the support everyone and s'more luck from Rhino, no doubt I'll be needing your help along the line somewhere. Is this enough incentive for you to post a WIP for the lynx?

@spacemanc, I did post a thread in suggesions a lil' while ago about CSBs or any smaller boats, wondering about a possible place in game. It's kinda chicken or egg, which comes first? I might try to whip a landing craft together when I have all the basics on this mother done, before I go into any majour detail. Cuz yeah, i don't wanna have to use any crappy ribs when this is done.

I guess I need to research about HMS Ocean a lil' more besides teaching myself how to texture and animate...
