Looks like that one's either just a flipped image or doing a loop/roll, rather than flying upside down. The rotor blades would be bending the other way if they were giving it lift in that direction.

and the huey, the cow, the hippo, the merlin, the apache, the cobra, the z10, the eurocopter, the wz-11 and my favourite; The littlebird.

In short, all helis in PR can fly upsidedown.

ye think your right there egor, that pic is just of a flip but I'm pretty sure its possible for the lynx to fly upside down :)

cant find any vids thou of the lynx doing it.

Well, the lynx will be being used a lot more in the future, and it is still used extensivley. However, seeing as Pr is set in the near future, it would be better to be thinking about the Future Lynx variant which is on order for something like 2012. Ive made a quick list of the lynx and whats happening to it in the near future:

All Lynx replaced by Future lynx model

Super Lynx (naval variants):
Anti-submarine: replaced by merlin
Anti-surface vessel: replaced by future Lynx and/or merlin
Commandos variant: replaced by future lynx and merlin
Lynx AH-7 and AH-9 (army anti tank variant): replaced (almost) by apache
Lynx utility helicopter role will continue until replaced by future lynx.

Now MOD has to find its money to bring in the Future Lynx...Which probably wont happen because they have their heads up their a*ses.

And i haven't been on these forums in ages... :P
As regards to the merlins speed, Lynx is still faster, but the gap is pretty close. All i know is the Future Lynx will be about the same speed with a much improved avionics suite, and with all its targeting and weapon systems computerised, much like the Merlin.

The good news is that Britain's two super carriers have confirmed orders :) .

As far as implementing the model into PR, i dont see a reason why not, its a nice cab, just make it fast and agile (like the littlebird), have it in a scout and troop transport role (like the littlebird), and dont give it TOW rockets, but give it a side mounted GPMG or 50.

:EDIT: also, The pongos and the crabheads cant really fly...FAA FTW!

Any chance we can get some new renders of the lynx? I know its in the works, it would be nice to see its progress.

As far as i know it can not fly upside down for any prologed period, where the "rumours" of it being able to fly upside down comes from its ability to do loop the loop which some helicopters can not do.

It is possible for a helicopter to fly upside down (many model ones can) but this is because they can adjust the rotors to allow it to do this, no production helicopter that i know of has the ability to adject its rotors to do this as it doesnt really have many practical aplications. There is also a issue with fuel and lubricant flow if you were to fly it upside down for long periods.

thats the reason you can not find any videos of it flying upside down only photos and those photos are when its flying upside down during a loop.

Its just physically impossible to fly upside down in a helicopter, even changing the pitch of the rotor blades would probably not really enable you to do so.

@CP, on a side note, I finally got upside down.

nooo its not, its simple physics. All you need is a high enough power to wait ratio to do it, if you have enough lift to counter its wait it will fly, by giving it enough negative lift, then you invert the chopper it will turn to positive lift and fly upside down... Like stated above many RC choppers can fly upside down since they have a very high power to wight ratio and have there blades designed so they can get the negative lift it needs.

Helicopter do not realy respect "physic" when you look at it. Lynx can fly upside down i see it on discovery channel. The rotor move and act like if the chopper was normaly flying. Its not impossible it just require some reliable engine and may be more fuel. :-?

I have seen the RC vids. :)

I se how it can be possible, but not something shall I say realistic as such? I doubt a chinnok could do it, it probably depends highly on the weight of the chopper and things like centre of gravity.

it is realistic in the laws of physics? how can it be unrealistic just cos a RC chopper is doing it?

Providing the chopper can generate enough negative lift to counter its own wait then there is no reason why it can not fly upside down, unless there are some kinda fuel problems or w/e with the engine.

A Chinook probably can not generate enough negative lift since its not designed too so then it would not be able to fly upside down...

Mmm, maybe I used the wrong word, realistic as in, I can never imagine any helicopter even theoretically possible ever needing to fly upside down.
