M2 SLAM change

Post by arjan »

i play alot SF sabotage. lately and i was missing something.
My idea:

Give the slam 4 fire modes:
- 10 seconds
- 30 seconds
- 60 seconds
- detonator?

the scenario's where those fire modes would be helpfull with:

10 sec's: doing a quik sabotage on a small target, when the seconds count.
30 sec's: doing a sabotage mission on a FOB.
60 sec's: doing a larger area with SLAM's.
(example: jabal, the mec AA sites[more tacticaly without being noticed])
Detonator: to ambush enemies.

just thought about it and had to trow it onboard. :)

isn't the only weapon with firemodes the main weapon (slot 3)? I'm not too sure, but I though I found it somewhere...

no, every weapon can have firemodes, but setting the timer via firemodes is not possible AFAIK

Doesnt sound possible. Afaik other mods have mines etc with different timers, remote controls, blah blub, whatever. And they all are extra slots with or without shared ammo.

A simple solution would leave it timed, and give it a detonator. So the spec ops guy can plant it and run with the timer, or do more coordinated strikes with the detonator.

There already is C4 for that, i dont see the need to put that for slams too. The devs had probably a reson to restrict the number of C4.

But the M2's are greatly weaker then C4.. and yeah, a simple right click for a det would do... (I would be satisfied with that, because with that, you could simply count to 10!.. but 60 would be your limit...)

Militia Officers have Scorpions for their sidearms. The Scorp has Full Auto and Semi Auto firing modes.

Also: Just throwing it out there: SPEC OPS POINTS ARE MESSED UP! You blow up a command post, a Bridge, kill 3 guys, Blow up a firebase, Run back into friendly lines, and you have 200 points. WHAAAT?!

Assuming that the developers can have different settings for timed detonation on the M2 SLAM working flawlessly, the BF2 engine still limits them in terms of fire modes. There can only be three fire modes maximum, if I do recall.

Although, there is a sort of compromise that I see. Let's suppose they maglinked two different SLAM munitions in the inventory, one of them on a timed setting and the other on a remote detonation setting. The timed munition could have three different settings, as seen above. The remote detonation, as its name suggests, could be planted and then remotely activated.

In theory, it could work that way, but only at the expense of inventory space and developer resources.

I don't want to see this in-game before IEDs are given a proximity detonator, as SLAMs are very rarely used in-game, while IEDs really shouldn't be.

If the above dream never comes true...

I think C4 should be removed from Spec Ops and replaced with a remote-detonated SLAM. I'm pretty sure that the SLAM is weaker than C4, but still more than potent enough to destroy anything a Spec Ops soldier has any business destroying in the first place.

give the slam a remote control like the c4. Thats all we need, then so you can blow it @ the time you want.

But for me 40 sec is to long. So i used the c4 the most times.
