More variety of Chinese infantry weapons

Post by AIAbermuda »

I noticed in the mod all the Chinese infantry use the same QBZ-95 rifle.
In reality the Chinese use different varients of the QBZ rifle family such as a short-stock version and a submachinegun (see attached photos).

The Chinese also use rifles such as Type-81 (AK-47 clone), CQ 5.56 (M16 clone) Type-03, could add more variety of infantry weapons such as to their special forces.

The QBZ-95 is the basic and overall rifle in the Chinese Army. the SMG was in PR for 0.6, don't know why it was removed.

the type 81 was replaced by the type 95 so you can scratch that from the list but the type 03 should definately be included

Realize, that the typical infantry units are all going to be equipped with the same standard assault rifle. It's easier on logistics for the most part. The Type 81 has been replaced by the newer QBZ-95, so there's no chance of that being in game. I believe the "carbine" version of the QBZ-95 was removed because our Chinese sources made a point that it wasn't used by Chinese SOF that often.

Though if anything, the Type 03 could suffice as a weapon for the Chinese special forces kit, but really besides the traditional rifle design it doesn't seem to offer anything vastly different from the QBZ-95.

Now in terms of Chinese weaponry, I think if there was anything that'd be a welcome addition it would be the Chinese QJY88 GPMG to replace the SAW version of the QBZ-95 as the PLA automatic rifleman kit.

I thought the 95 was still in pretty limited use, and only really issued to the more expeditionary and/or specialised units of the PLA and some Police units. That's what I understood anyway, and the Devs reasoning was the PLA in game was merely a representation of a well equipped Marines equivilant force.

I think the SMG was removed cos all other Spec Ops units get carbines.

Variety is exactly the last thing an army with as many soldiers as the PLA wants. Its a logistical nightmare.

The PLA is reequiping with 5.8mm small arms in the shape of the QBZ-95 (which is planned to be the standard shoulder arm for the PLAA and PLAM at the very least), QBU-95 (SAW) and QBB-88 (Designated Marksman/Sniper). Also being brought into use is the QBZ-03, reserved for the recon teams.

The first picture you posted shows the QBZ-97, QBZ-97B (carbine) (Note the deep mag wells and STANAG type magazines) and QBU-88. Now the first two are not used by the PLA but built only for export. The QBU-88 and the 5.8mm equivalants to the '97s you showed are already in game. And we're not even sure the QBZ-95B is in PLA use anyway, but it makes an appearance as the Crewman weapon.

The Type-81 is being phased out in favor of the '95, and now primarily equips second line units (and is not an AK clone, its a Chinese design, the Type-56 is the AK clone) and the CQ was only ever built for export.

And, as said, the PLA ingame represent the best of the PLA tooled up with the cream of their equipment.

Also, this has come up at least once before. Locked.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
