I remember the "RPG" themes in the .6 beta, it was really fun to play on either side. Cant really do that now though because some one will inevitabally ruin it, Ive tryed it a few times, offering to help the brits find caches every now and then, throwing them feild dressing and what not...Some will actually let you live when you give them one or while your taking them to a cache, but you'll usually get the one idiot (who always happens to be a support gunner...) run and knife you.

If we could get the .6 beta "RPG" games back on basrah or another map that'd be sick :twisted:

Yeah, i totoally forgot about the whole Basrah RPG.
Well, it could be easily revived. All it would take is a willing server host.
A passworded server (perhaps with TS); and a well thought out map rotation should surfice for an RP server.

I've been tempted to make a proper RPG mod, but never really found the time. It may happen some day ;)

Im all for a passworded server to play RP matches on. Id love to stop civies at VCP and search there cars :P

Players are hardcoded, mate ;)

You can create a new gamemode but if you can't force players to act like you want them to act then it will end up like a deathmatch again (at least on public servers)... so the only rpg aspect in it would be an apc destroyed by RPG :D

Actually, I had similar thoughts some time ago. I imagined a large map, with much variety regarding the environment (urban, desert, jungle, etc.). Then you had to "do stuff" (unspecified yet).

Of course you should be able to buy things somehow. Perhaps it's possible to walk around with a gun, but no ammo? And the server "spawns" an ammo box at your position when you do x or y? That way you can reload your ammo etc. But it would reload -all- sorts of ammo, which isn't what you want, I guess. Is it possible to only reload bullets? Or only grenades?

The map should be persistent. As in, a round never ends, it always keeps on going. But, don't want to let it get boring, so would be nice if the map itself changed. Make up a timezone (much like a generic time like the PRT uses). So, if you want things to happen around 8PM (servertime) on June 16, everybody knows when that is.

Now, keep on imagining: give a player a certain amount of credits. They can use those credits to buy items (which spawn in-game). Now, what you could do is make commands available for the players to use. For example, if they enter "$amount", the system displays the amount of money they have. And "$buy <objectname>" will let the player buy an object, which spawns at their feet, for them to "use" or just let it be? Don't know if it would be possible to attach a certain ID to it, so they can later be able to sell the item and/or place it somewhere else.

Also, you can hook up your "PR Life" server with a website, where the players could buy items to use in-game? For example, you decide to buy object x, you can later in-game do a "$move <objectname>" and the system checks if you have used that item in-game already. If not, it spawns it and places it at your feet.

Instead of having kill/death/teamwork scores, you could replace those with the amount of money you have (so no "$amount", but simply pull down the scoreboard).

Well, I could go on and on for hours, but you get the idea :D .

Prehaps you could have players go to a "shop".Upon entering a menu,similiar to the Sandbox mod menu, appears and players select what they want?

Maybe you could put some coding that if a player walks into a door the kit menu pops up and he can make a kit(What he is wearing, etc) not sure if its possible but would be cool.

This is a horrible idea. This is battlefield 2 we're talking about. Not WOW or warcraft 3. As you mentioned it would be coding hell and would simply turn a lot of gamers away from PR. This is a decent idea to become its own game... But for PR this just doesnt work.

It's in no way meant to replace PR ;) . We're merely imagining what would happen if you add RPG elements ;) .

We could also just do it simple instead of the coding hell. Passworded server + forum. Players will need to keep the rulles. and they will just do there duties. i think however that al barah would need to be changed alot. (new spawn points more vehicles etc)

That of course would be a lot easier (though different). Either way, someone has to think about what rules apply, what changes need to be made to a map (serverside only is best), etc.

Actually, the idea isnt bad. I'm a fan of RPG's. Not of MMO's really, i prefer single player ones, because there i can play a role instead of just hunting score. I always thought Al Basrah just asked for something like this - though i have to agree that a passworded server and a few changes about vehicles and spawns would be enough. (What about respawn anyway?)

Ya a few things that wuld need to changed:


Iraqi 2006 Chevy Pickup truck Police Car(Model mostly used in Iraq)
Box trucks
Deployable roadblocks by insrgents
Almost all buildings enterable(Just a few more, not whole city)
8 Insrgent classes(Different uniforms.)


And much more.

I think we should first just play an RP game of normal basrah, open a feedback topic and then hopefully whit either help or aproval form the Devs, make a new one or keep it.
