it would be great, but for the person taht took it on, there would be loads of work involved. It might end up like the Kashan Nights map really, cept not as dark

I found this sentence quite funny and since this is a war game forum I will put it here. No offense to the french just a good laugh.

Re: AL BASRAH NIGHTS!
Here we go again. All of you love night maps sooooo much b/c they are so 1337 and so much fun to play...
Yea night maps are teh sh1t in theory but it's a very different situation in practice. Anyone remember Bi Ming when it was still a night map? If so than you know what I'm talking about.
Making Basrah a night map means there would have to be street lights and every single light presents a new static and Basrah already has over 3700 statics which is a lot. Then there area also night shaders that are a lot more performance heavy than the normal ones so the view distance would have to be decreased significantly which would then result in a vBF2 looking map with karaknd view distance = lame even tho it's a night map where you don't need to see miles away.
Another issue is insurgents not having NVG's IRL and it wouldn't be exactly realistic to give them some in PR.
Long story short: please no more night maps since it's been proven that they are by far not as 1337 and popular as people think.
And Basrah's already been screwed up once so it doesn't really need to be completely killed by making it a night map. But I do agree that a different sky wouldn't hurt at all. Right now we have a really poor lightning that looks totally unrealistic (=very bright ground lightning and very ugly dark static lightning with very bright reflection).

Re: AL BASRAH NIGHTS!
i suggested this like 2 months ago, devs said they would never make a night map version of any current pr map, i talked to battlearena4, the owner for the battlearena server he said if i made the map he would host a small server for it and even add it to the roatation, so i started work and then a dev told me i needed to get premision to edit the map. so i pmed the dev that made it and never got a reply.
also for the people that say it would be too hard to play, i was testing and it was fine without night vision, i could see things sure harder but still see them, this would just make the insurgents re-think there attacks.

Re: AL BASRAH NIGHTS!
In all honesty, night maps aren't going to happen again. Especially against insurgents where they do not have the night vision equipment to actually have a fighting chance against a well equipped army. If you ever heard of the "Battle of Najaf" the insurgents in Iraq actually began to retreat and hide by nightfall. This is because they were fully aware that they did not possess this night vision equipment and dared not show thier faces till dawn against the U.S. forces.
As much as I love realistic game play, in reality people use every advantage they can get over the enemy to succeed. I'm rather cut-throat when it comes to things, but even I have to admit that having a team with NVG and the other team without would severely hurt the gameplay. There isn't much fun in shooting an enemy that can't see you, part of the hunt is the challenge of the kill.
Then again, I can see it now. People playing Insurgents and messing around with thier brightness/contrast settings so it doesn't apply to them.

Re: AL BASRAH NIGHTS!
Who said it had to be as dark as Bi Ming? It could always be at dawn or dusk.
