AA range too much in MEC vs US carrier map
Im sorry i honestly dont rmbr the name of the map, but its the MEC Vs US map with carrier, Lots of Hues and LBs. It seems to me that either the carrier is WAY too close to the beach or something needs to be done to the range of the AA.
At certain points, the HUEs get locked on when they warm up on the deck. How in Christs sake is that going to work? This happens before the counterattack starts too.
Perhaps, the out of bounds for the MEC can be pushed a slight tad bit back? Its near landing zone 2 i believe that the AA guys love to hang around. If not the AA then the 50 cals base rape our carrier all the time... Its just no fun getting killed before u even start. Any thoughts?
(Please dont comment on how "well if u cant defend ur carrier then u deserve to be camped" because many issues exist with that statement that would create a list so long to explain it would make the American Preamble look like the shortest sentence in the world.)

You're probably talking about gulf of Oman. The AAV or the AA kit can lock helos from the beach.

Hmm, maybe the range could do with reducing a little...even on Jabal the AA locks on when you're barely off the carrier once the MEC pushes the Americans back into the sea...Only problem is though, once you reduce range you'd have to reduce lock-on time to compensate.

Its a bug
zatar especially gives the pilots lock when the manpad is miles away. I dont know why but wait until you actually get shot on the carrier before complaining because no missile is actually locked on you

I've been shot on Zatar Carrier before. Birds were taking of sideways, dropping down behind the ship, skirting the sea and dropping flares trying to get off the bamn thing.

The problem is that the lock happends out of the view range of the AA guy, so he sees only the lock message, and thinks the chopper is not on the carrier..

no, they know what they are doing. I usually know where they are, since they sit in teh same spot to get that lock on. I heard em AA missiles buzz right over my head a couple of times on the deck. Also the second a chopper moves 4 feet infront of the carrier, the technicals already got a visual and fire the choppers off the sky. This would never happen IRL mainly cuz the ship would be further back. I understand devs cant do that. But the no fly zone could be pushed further back for the MEC away from the beach. Just a little bit will make a HUGE difference.

If a AA is on the hill near the us airbase flag, it can lock on to a passing heli, lose the target and move towards targets on the carrier.

zatar used to be a brilliant map before you could build SAMs at firebases, now every helicopter has to fly through barrages of missiles to even reach land and thus the USMC get smashed every time.

They last for a while, and if you time they well, you have just enough of them to get to the LZ and back to the carrier

Honestly waah, as awesome as that sounds (and i do believe u it can work {although i still get shot down putting out manouvers like crazy with flares dumped all around me}) even if you do get passed the AA you have to put up with the technicals on the hilltops that can almost barely see the carrier anyway. So coming in for an LZ anywhere near LZ 1 or 2 is a no go everytime. Have to go through canyons low up north west of map, and MEC know this so they build bunkers there too or set up technicals there as well. 10 choppers leave, only .5 come back...
As little bird i try to take em out and it works, but the effin AA are always on my ***.
But im not pissed about the AA or technicals cuz its life and you deal with it, but it becomes annoying when you cant even take off without already taking fire.

by the way, are the AA guns on the carrier active on zatarwetlands?
Cuz if they are im just gonna have a spec ops guy point out where i should shoot from carrier and show MEC how annoying and unfair they are.

not to mention if the hueys get past the AA curtain they also have to deal with 20 vodniks and 4 manpads available lining the entire hillsides.
the problem is even worse for APCs who have to cross open water and deal with the unrealistcally fast eryxs
if two equal teams fought each other with the current setup i reckon you would need at least double the amount of USMC soldiers and assets to effectively take on a decent MEC team.

im not sure anything can be done about this.. i mean the range from land to carrier is about the range that the AAA needs to take down aircraft

Our APCs never make it past the landing zones apparently... I think opposing APCs are in the way. Thats and the anti tanks. Bah its a mess...
Well sluggo, there is a thing that can be done. There is a certain range as to how far the MEC can set forth their feet on the ground before they need to come back to the fight. Shorten the range on the hills a tad bit and that will enable the US to set up a foothold position on the beach. I mean, the actual landing zones 1 and 2 will ACTUALLY be landing zones, not just last resort suicide missions.
During counter attack there is nothing that can be done, but hopefully the US will have some kind of advance due to the set back the MEC had on the hills before the counter attack.
I really really think that just that little change will do sooooo much for the map.
