I wouldn't say that, they did make the highway tempa or w/e its called map them selfs, thou they did start it way back, then stopped it, then started to work on it again after a load of players found out there might not be any more patches for BF2 :p

Sounds fake to me, they wont update an old game unless its under sponsorship by someone

128 on karkland would mean you'd die just from bumping into people running

Maybe the "patch" is a code word for the release of the source code? 8-)

With voip, the gaming would get intense on a 128 player PR server. It would be welcome I think. Even more tactical than now. Would force players to raise their game a bit.
Ah the good old days of 100+ players on Joint Ops 8)

The new patch will probably just be a couple of fixes and maybe even a map or two.

I think most people "cuss them out" because they see other people doing it and think its the thing to do. I mean, I think most people will have more than got their moneys worth out of bf2, and DICE dont seem that bad a company to me - even more so for supporting a game 3 years after release ( crytek have already stopped supporting crysis! )
BF2 is one of the best games Ive ever bought, even without considering PR, which is all I really play now.

128 won't fit for bf2 imo, 80 would be the max for me.

I total agree because on the largest size maps (4km by 4km) a teams human recourse are stretched with only 31/2 player, however the max number of squads available is 9 = 54 player, therefore the max on a server would be 108 but many specialized squads (tank and aircraft) operate best with less than 6 players in them. With this in mind, 40 - 50 players would be the max per team = an increase of 10-20 per team could work (in gameplay terms) but not an increase of 32 per team.

I should grab a few friends and do an operation to siege the source code from EA during a holiday evening.

1) HALO onto their roof.
2) Bang, clear, scare the shit out of security.
3) The files are "IN!!!" the computer.
4) Break computer to get files.
4.5) No more Battlefiled for anyone.
5) FAIL!

Doh.
Wasn't me.

Also get the widescreen fixer:
imk.cx: PC Projects - Widescreen Fixer

Then start up the fixer, get in game, and press the ; key. This along with the line in your shortcut will truly make it widescreen. Youll notice a big difference.

Patch would be nice. Upping map, squad and vehicle loads would be my biggest hope, I think.

I agree 128 is too many for the vast majority of maps. Im sure I read somewhere that Frostbite only supports 96 players ( its a bit of a random number, so I must have read it somewhere! )
Its all very unlikely anyway - Im sure the patch will be very similar to the bf2142 1.5 patch which came out recently:

After a successful open beta phase of Battlefield 2142 Update 1.50 and tweaks and updates being made based on feedback on the forums we have released the final version of Battlefield 2142 Update 1.50. Servers are being updated and the client files are now available for you to update and get into the new content.

As we mentioned with the Beta release we have added a number of new features and added new content to Update 1.50

FEATURES

- Added community maps, Wake Island 2142 and Operation Shingle

- Added the ability to use widescreen resolutions.

- Added No Vehicles mode.

- Added Conquest Assault mode.

- Changed the volume control for the Commander Voice Over on request of the esports community.

- Changes made to pod steering mechanism to improve control while limiting pod surfing.

FIXES

- Fixed the loading issue caused by corrupt Radial.cdb file

- Various changes made to prevent cheating.

spacemanc wrote:omg - just listened to it and it looks like there is actually going to be a new patch announced on monday :D - can we mention fastropz now? jk - I think 128 players may be a possibilty though, as it was planned to be in the game and now peoples hardware has improved. How cool would that be for PR!
128 players in project reality would kick unlimited amounts of ***, but this really begs the question if the servers have enough bandwidth to handle that kind of traffic.

How Joint Operations solved the 128 ping issue was that when entering the servers you were to click on the region you lived in. It was Europe, USA.., Asia.. If you lived in Europe and entered that region you would get EU servers and the ping was reasonable, but living in EU and entering the US servers would get you a bad ping. Now Joint Operations had a much wider community than PR, so this wouldn't work with servers never filling up to 128. Now I don't know if the ping issue is comparable with BF2.

Not really that random; it's a part of the 32x table which is what most games use, cos it's easy :)
