Greetings All,
I know this is a very touchy subject around here so I am going to make this post short and sweet and get right to the point. I know it has been said Fast ropes are not possible and posting here in regards to them is dangerous. LOL Please watch the video I have linked below and again tell me Fast ropes are not possible.
YouTube - Project Reality chopper action and fastroping.
Sorry I had to as when I seen it myself I thought YESSSSSSSSSSSS

Oh Metal Gear Solid 4 facepalm nice!
Didn't you see in the video, even after he got it to work, the chopper moved slightly and the whole thing fell out, it isn't pratical, considering that the chopper is almost always moving around, thus even with this workaound, the grappling hook would just fall through the chopper.

Known one.
Does only work with one chopper and only with engineers/special forces. And takes about 100 times longer than just jumping out of that thing. Ergo: Slow roping.
For the long version of this post, look there v

You can do this ingame now, just grab a spec ops kit, get a good pilot with the merlin and enter & exit the vehicle at the right spot, throw a hook out and bam. Thing is... the whole process is a bit complicated and tricky, you have to know exactly what seats you can exit without falling out of the chopper, when to latch onto the rope and of course the pilot himself needs to be good. You're not going to be fast roping on a public server unless your with a tight group of friends or with some clanmates.
Even considering that, the whole thing is risky given that the chopper would have to hover perfectly still and all (Perfect for RPG attacks or a lucky sniper). Also like PlayPR mentioned, the chopper can glitch through the grappling hooks and cause a fatal accident for everyone.
You can do it, but it's just not a practical method. It's more of an out of the box thing that I wouldn't recommend doing. It's bout as bad as having some guys jump in the back of the supply trucks just so you can bypass the 8 player per vehicle limit.

Oh yea I completely agree that it is pointless to use it in the form that the video shows, I just think it makes it clear that something can be done using that technique and maybe fine tune it to actually be a viable part of fast deployment.
If the whole model and physics of the zip line could be used and made to be deployed from a chopper would probably be a better way to look I'm sure.
Who knows!!! I'm sure the DEV's have looked at every possible aspect of adding this to the MOD. Maybe I should have started this post in general Threads instead of suggestions so we could just talk about it in a general type discussion not in the form of suggesting.
I just love the idea as I spent 17 years in HS9 aboard the USS Nimitz. I wasn't a pilot or even an infantry but to see those guys fast rope to the pitching deck of an aircraft carrier was just mind blowing.

What'd be good is if they changed the models so that certain seats would have the player exit INSIDE the vehicle. So you get like 2 of the side-seats on the blackhawk have the players appear inside the chopper when they exit, that way they can get out and toss a grappling hook, and fast-rope down. Other players would have to switch to the appropriate seats to fast-rope, which would be realistic as those in the back of the blackhawk would have to move to the middle anyways. THAT could be done, and if done via an organized squad be HIGHLY effective.
But because it requires such teamwork and precision (The heli pilot has to hover near perfectly, you have to have a class with a grappling hook, you'd have to have coordination so you moved and got down ASAP) it might not be worth implimenting, considering they'd have to re-model virtually every heli capable of doing this. But it would still be a nice feature to see added sometime in the future when the devs get time.
After all I'm sure there isn't a single person here who doesn't want fast-roping, so this would be a perfectly viable alternative.

A) This vid has been posted before. You throw a grappling hook onto a chopper, then you have wannabe fastropes. However, fastropes aren't possible to make (at least satisfactory), as they're hardcoded. They also do not serve a purpose, as you could simply land the chopper between buildings instead. I suggest you do a search for "fastropes" and you'll find further information on the subject, as well as this video.
B) Great facepalm picture.
C) Locked for resuggestion.
