Hey there,

This is a suggestion for insurgent maps, but more of an inquery as to the fundamentals of blades and knives in PR.

My question is, how does knife damage work, is it a point blank projectile or is it somthing else? If somthing like this is hard coded, then thats end of disgussion, but im interested in the possibility of a swinging melee weapon like a machete for Insurgents and/or anyone who fits the criteria and has low tech weapons.

Is it possible with the BF2 engine to have a blade that draws through the air and can kill multipal opponants in a single swipe, and can the length of such a weapon be increased so as to be more like a sword with the desired effect of a long bladed weapon?

If anyone from the modding community has any info on this, i would be very interested to hear about it.

Afaik its a projectile, and afaik projectiles can only be fired out of the center of the screen, and that would mean that you only hit what you're pointing at. So for a "blade" you'd probably have to make a full automatic knife shooting 10 projectiles or so and would have to aim at the two (or more) people so each person would get one or a few of the 10 projectiles.

Thats what i'd imagine it works like.

But seriously, the chance that you come so close to two or more armed people in a fight is quite low.

Thanks for the info. One person has told me that it is how you say, but that it is possible to elongate the projectile, and have it move horizontally instead of moving dead ahead. Apparently the knife is the same as a pistol and the projectile comes out directly in front of the shooter and it drops to the ground without a sound and the model and animation are changed totally. With this info i assume with some work, one could fashion a sword or machete and write in the appropriate actions nessesary. Needless to say, more research is needed.

Oh and, i think if people are good enough (which they are becoming) they would be well capable of sneaking up on people and hacking them up. I mean, even new people are capable of using the Petrol bombs at close range and i know a lot of people who rather knife their opponants on PR than shoot. i guess its down to preferance and skill. but its always nice to have the option. :D

I know this is more in tune with the community mods section of the forum, so appologies for the missappropriation guys. :)

machetes would be awesome!
what about swords to officers who belong to factions which present their officers with swords for their accomplishments such as the the USMC

yes I know that they the swords presented to them are never intended combat but it would it would add some flavor to factions which present swords to their officers

In the first strike mod for Bf2142, afaik, the mod team edited the knife in that game to have a slash attack, opposed to a "one-meter bullet" the knife usually has. This made it so you wouldn't have to have a direct hit on the enemy to kill him. Bf2142 and BF2 share similar engines, so it could be possible.

Are you suggesting a wide spread spray of bullets? IF it was like the shotgun and had a larger deviation pattarn to boot, it might just work out. I think we all know, its fun to get into knife fights, specially when you get the drop on sombody. I try and stay away from them in general, and stick to teamwork, but when the server count is low, who knows. :D
