Being a Commander, A few questions

Post by Danijam »

Hey all

Well I've decided I'm going to take a crack at being a commander as most games sometimes lack people willing to take on such a role. But I have a few questions regarding how the commander operates, mainly to do with VOIP.

When playing as a private in a squad we can talk to our squad with the "B" key, but its the "V" key I would like to know more about. Only squad leaders and the commander can use it. but
  • When a squad leader uses it does he talk to the commander only or the commander and all other SL's?
  • If the commander use's it does he talk to all SL's, or does he have to select 1 squad leader to talk to from the commander page
  • Secondly as a commander is it possible to talk to all players on one team?
  • Or all players in 1 squad
I don't really want to make a idiot of myself by thinking I'm talking to the a whole squad when in fact I'm just talking to the SL, or vice-versa

Apart from that everything is fairly well explained in the manual.

Although you know the landing zone markers? their intended to mark important locations, right? but who see's these on the either the HUD or map?, is it just the SL's?

Hope some people can give me some advice on this

Cheers

1. You only talk to the commander pressing the V key.

2. Default (let's call it that because you can choose which squad you wish to talk to) you talk to every squad leader, unless you enter the commander screen and choosing.
-To choose which squads not to talk to you have to look at the squads on the left side of your screen, they have their own little boxes displaying the number of squad members and all that, on the right side of that little box you should be able to disable the voice action with those, when you press that box a X appears- Well I think that is how it works.

3. No, not unless you text type unfortunatly. But you can commend a squad, which all the squad members and the squad leader will see as a text message directed to them. You could also tell them that they su*k.

4. Read 3. :D

EVERYONE sees the landing zone (LZ) it's intended to show some good landing spots for helis and other transport vehicles.

Glad to see you want to be a commander, and a good one, kinda need those :)

Cheers for that

Defiantly going to go try that in a bit.

See you all on the battlefield

2. There is more than just muting each squad to talk to individual squad leaders and i'd recommend doing this instead.

Don't mute anyone. To talk to all squads you can use the commander voip button at any time and you will speak to all squads no matter what screen you are in. This is however extremely frustrating as you'll be interrupting every squad in the game no matter what you are saying. Its best to only use this at the very beginning of a round or to give everyone a very brief heads up. In order to talk to each squad individually, go into the commander screen select the squad(s) that you want to talk to and use the squad chat button that you would use like you were in a squad. That will talk to specifically the squad(s) you selected in the commander screen. You must stay in that screen in order to continue talking to only those squads and cannot exit if you want to continue transmitting.

If you need to talk to all squads on the V channel ( perhaps you are moving and cannot get to the caplok map ) then call out " Break Break for the Commander " and wait a moment for the SL to finish talking to their squads.
Remind squads that they can use you to transfer messages between squads, for suppressive fire or for helo extraction or supply drop.
Try to keep the talking to a minimum as SL tend to get very busy.

Don't be afraid to respawn as another class if you need shovels and nobody is around.
You have 5 minutes from when you drop a bunker/firebase to get it built and often the fastest way to get it done is to do it yourself.
And as the windshield melts

Hm, i don't think so... May be wrong, but i believe that this box only "mute" them, meaning you cant hear them anymore but they are still able to hear you.

As Patterson said, to talk to one or a several squads, you have to use the Squad talk key (default : B) while selecting (Ctrl or Maj to select multiple squads) the squads you want to talk to.

In a general way, try to use the commander VOIP (global channel) the least you can. You should use it at the beginning of the game to explain your "strategy", or when you're dead / driving a truck because you cant access the commander screen anymore (and that channel is the only one working), but that's all.

According to my experience this doesn't work. When pressing squad voip key (default B) in commander screen nothing happens. No matter how many squads I have selected from the left side list. The only way I can talk to squad leaders is to use commander voip key (default V) and talk to every SL simultaneously.

Well, as far as i'm concerned, i don't remember hearing a "bip" or such sound as when i'm using the global channel, but i get some SL answering me... So that must work ;)

Well I went and tried it out, and yeah I wished I had know about being able to talk to squads separately with the "B" key :( , cause muting squads is not going to work logistically if they are trying to get in contact with you. oh well learnt somthing new.

Could this sort of thing be put in the manual in a bit more depth?

Bring up the Commander Screen (Tab), click on the squad you want to talk to, (For multiple squads, hold dowen Ctrl, if done correctly, the squads selected will turn white) press the B key, only the selected squad(s) will hear your message.
And yes, clicking the speaker next to the squad number only mutes them, I found this out the hard way.
